No offence - I dislike this idea now... If you can sit around in a system and have bribes everywhere - then it would ruin fun for some new players. Bribes are handy, but they arn't everything. Spending years on your computer doing missions for days is sometiems a good thing. everything can't be easy.

I prefer the message at start thing.

I think this was discussed before in another topic (a year ago or so), back than i had an idea, so i post it here again:).

With a starting system, you dont realy need to have players running arround takeing bribes, etc. Since i'm not very good with words, i will demonstrate it with an image:

As you can see you start at a base, or planet or whatever, than you will see an information bouy infornt of you "Welcome to Discovery, please chose a race by entering the right Trade lane"
Every Tradelane takes you to a house space. There you can chose between the roles, like tradrer, lawfull pirate, etc (the Jumpholes have this name, and they are one way jumps, so no return...)
So from this point you can turn back, and chose another house, if you want.
---In this case i only painted the things for bretonia---
So, after you jump out the tradelane, you will see another buoy ("Choose youre Role" or whatever name )
We choose the lawfull JH. It will take us into the nebula (every nebula is painted as the main house color -- rheinland-*green, liberty-*bluie, etc). You will land inside the nebula, and inside of a "Zone 21 type" minefiled -- so you cannot go back, and take all the bribes...--
In this zone you will see 1 Bretonai bs (landable) and a jumphole. If you dock on the bs, you could take the bribes for the lawfulls, like BAF or BPA --- or if a modeller has a little time, she/he could make a bretonian starting ship, that has the same stats as the starflier, it only looks bretonia-ish, and you could buy this for 100$ or so...
After you have youre bribe, and youre BAF tag, you undock from the bs, and fly to the JH --- it has the name "Exit to Bretonia", or something like that.---
You jump through, and it will drop you out infront of planet new london (offcourse one way jumphole), and from now on you can start youre RP life:)
Offcourse if you chose to be molly you chose the unlawfull jh, than dock on the molly base (molly and gaian would be on separate bases, since they are enemies..), after that you take the other "exit to bretonia" jh, and it will take you to the leeds smog cloud for example...,
and the whole story is the same in every case (rheinland, kusari etc..)
The independent cloud would be for freelancers, etc, the pirate could for corsairs, outcasts, etc
I think this would solve every above mentioned problems.
(With a nice systembackground, suns, and the nebulas it would be even nice to look at it:P)

start system has to be friendly to new players.

many of new players don't know what is it BMM or Molly.

new players start as independent traders almost always.

Penn is perfect system to create new char and to see what is discovery.
its only problem, it is part of Liberty. you can create there and develop only a libertonian char.

What about the poor soles that want to go to Rheinland? Class2 guns against class 6-8 guns?

I prefer the <restart> alternative start as you'd start in an appropriate base surrounded by your new buddies & can jump into your new starting ship with new weapons etc.

But this is a thread about one-way jump holes, so I'd simply recommend placing the jumphole 20 clicks above New Berlin & then the new pilot can fly to their prefered destination with relative ease (if common sense is applied).

we should just have it so that there's a jh for each capitol system for each house. that should be it.
just my thought on the subject...

I have said this before, and i will say it again. This is a LONG needed implement. I way jumpholes w/ maybe a few bases with bribes in it. Sure, it may be an OORP start, but it would make it alot easier to get into the game and start RPing for real

I like the idea of a seperate, inaccessible system. I didn't really like how we start in Liberty and seem to be automatically Libertonian. I wanted to be born on a space station for Pete's sake! I don't want to be Libertonian!

But yeah, the one way jump holes are a good idea. Means people can't turn around and blast up the new guys who are still learning the ropes. I also think a maximum in-level would be an idea. Level 20, maybe?
