You'd be surprised.
As Praetyre said though, the Nomads want Sirius for themselves. It was meant to be their's to begin with but humanity decided to claim it instead.
So yeh, a group of aliens came into your sacred home ground and took it over and now is expanding and threatens to outtech you as well. Nomads really are the good guys in this:rolleyes:
I posted these months ago, but they got buried among the newer topics, so I decided to re-post them. Some parts of these Overviews were changed during production of Freelancer. For example, in the Nomad Overview, they call Planet Malta Planet Ishmael and in the Liberty Overview, there are eight sleeper ships instead of five and Ageira Technologies was called Valhalla Technologies. Also, the Order of Cincinnatus in the Liberty Overview is NOT the same Order that we know of today (the one that fights Nomads).

It's got little to do with public support and a lot to do with the fact the IRA is fighting to regain the 6 counties. What's the point of fighting to gain a worthless nuclear wasteland and killing the people you want to liberate?
The IRA often didn't discriminate who they blew up. Plenty of nationalists (People who wanted to have northern ireland and the republic of ireland as one larger irish country) were their victims too.
Thankfully the entire situation has calmed down a lot, mainly due to newer generations going 'Wtf? Who cares about that crap?'. For once apathy is helpful:rolleyes:
A better idea regarding nomads might be the Native Indians and North America. Land that was theirs is now most certainly not.
' Wrote:Huh? Freelancer takes place entirely in the Milky Way galaxy (Sirius itself being a star around 8.6 light years from Sol) to begin with, so your complaint about the SK being there is fairly strange, especially given the only intergalactic power we know of is the Daam K'Vosh (who are stated, I believe, to hold several galaxies).
Secondly, it is entirely possible the SK that blew up Sol are an entirely seperate group from the Nomad War/Taurvi SK, given the immense size of the Daam K'Vosh Empire.
Third, even assuming the Sirius SK can produce the Sunkiller, the point of their conflict is to get back land they view as stolen. I doubt the IRA would approve of a plan to nuke the 6 Counties.
Looking through I have come to a few conclusions.
1. Sirius is NOT another star. I am stuck between 2 conclusions. Given how the map is made up in the vanilla version it appears to built like another galaxy. However to keep in mind that according to the intro it is called the Sirius SECTOR. Hence, the possibility that its still IN the milky way galaxy. Not saying that it is as they might have wanted to allow for some space during development as to specific locational freedom.
2. As for the distance from Sol. As far as I have found their is NO stated period of time between the beginning of the exodus and the time of arrival. So this rules out a definitive means to determining an answer to this. Also we don't actually know how fast the ships could travel. (though I do find it ironic that the intro shows them all leaving together and yet the writing says that liberty left early. I also noticed that according to the intro, the sleepers left from one of Jupiter's moons. And the Nomad Sun Killer didn't attack until the fight had gotten to Pluto.)
3. I still fail to see the justification for the extermination of the Sol system. It shows them as being an entirely hostile group rather then the cold calculated species that they truly are. However, I will give merit to the possibility that they are separate from the Sirius Nomads. It seems that the Sirius Nomads were dormant before the arrival of the Humans.
Sirius seems to be a cluster of, at most, a couple hundred stars. Our galaxy, the Milky Way, has between 200,000,000,000 and 400,000,000,000 stars. What's more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sirius
Yes but in the game there is NO star named sirius. Its referenced as a Sector of Space. In the end I believe that it was simply the designers wish to make a dedication to the 2 brightest stars that make up Sirius rather then to include them.
We don't actually see the centre of Sirius. The closest systems are in Liberty, I believe, and that's in an openght red nebula area. Also, it's possible that it's a 3D area of space, and Canis Majoris is situated at the "centre" of the "box" of the Sirius sector.
Since Sirius is a binary star system, I always thought that anyone of the binary star systems in the Sirius Sector could be the actual Sirius System. My best guesses would be the Kyushu, Tau-37, Sigma-13, and Sigma-19 Systems.

I believe someone (I think Praetyre) said that the Nomads had been watching humanity and that they deemed them unworthy of living after seeing them literally tear each other apart in the Alliance-Coalition War.
