We are gathering information for a potential event, you see.
Discussions over Skype have yielded a novel idea transplanted to Discovery is that of a Zombie Siege on a remote space station. The Premise being quite simple; Freeport 14 is besieged by a fleet of 'zombie' ships spawned by some kind of Eldritch Abomination which transforms ships it encounters into horrific 'zombies'. They have been harassing the remote systems of Liberty and are now poised to attack the largest station in the area; Freeport 14.
A number of ships of various origins, including resident Zoners, Bounty Hunters, Freight Pilots, Freelancers, and a few Pirates are camped at the Freeport. Normal traffic for the area, abiet with many staying together due to the unidentified threat. With the 'Zombie' attack, they are forced to put aside their differences for the sake of survival and hold out until reinforcements arrive.
There are three main groups in this event.
Survivors: A rag-tag assortment of Freeport Defenders, Freelance Pilots, Pirates, Etc. They are to defend the Freeport from the attacking horde until help arrives.
Survivors would be allowed Fighters/Freighters/Transports/maybe a gunboat or two.
If a Survivor is killed, they will respawn and join the "Zombie" team, having been taken over by the virus, and will then siege the station.
Zombies: The Zombies consist of any ships unlucky enough to have run into the Horror creating the virus. Made up of various shiptypes, mainly from unlawful or merchant groups, but with various others. Most likely combat-oriented fighters and bombers to start with.
Players on the "Zombie" team will be able to Respawn indefinitely until the cavalry arrives (possibly not be allowed to use regens or some other handicap though to balance it out). Odds are a temporary playerbase will be chucked deeper in the system as a Zombie spawnpoint (and removed afterwards).
The Calvalry: A reaction force will be dispatched by the Liberty Navy, consisting of any Navy ships (factions or indies, dosen't matter much). A mixed group of Fighters and a Capital Ship squadron will be sent in from Ontario to save the besieged Freeport.
Once the Navy arrives, the 'Zombies' will no longer be allowed to spawn, and the event will end when the last Zombie ship is killed. If the Navy arrives too late to save the freeport, then the "Zombie" team will have been considered to have 'won'.
There will be a time limit on how long before the LN can show up. (Like an hour or so), in which time the Survivors need to hold out. If any survivors are alive when they arrive, they will win and the LN will hunt down the remaining Zombies (with a possible postmortem trade event where medical supplies/repair equipment is sent to FP14).
If the Zombies win, the Yukon system becomes compromised with Freeport-14 overrun. The Liberty Navy will need to enact a containment protocol over the system and nearby areas to prevent another outbreak and hopefully sterilize the area later.
Freeport 14 is an ideal location since it is a largely unimportant backwater and could bring some much-needed activity to the Liberty Back-fourty (plus, it would be cool).
There aren't restrictions on who can join the event; anyone who would conceivably be running about Liberty is allowed. If we get some interest, we'll work out specifics like date and time for the event.
Sounds nice at first glance but.. How exactly does a blown-up ship respawn seconds later, fully repaired as a zombie? :rolleyes:Where does this plague come from? Why?
Too crazy imo
Magic, Reality Warping Cosmic Horrors, Arbitrary representation of different ships, Baxter Objects, Science run amok, the Ships not being 'killed' but instead twisted by some kind of bio-mechanical virus, take your pick. At the end of the day the explanations can be worked out afterwards (researchers can research this). The whole idea is it was a curveball that nobody saw coming.
The main reason being that this would be a fun and possibly entertaining event, the "Whys" can be thought of by Researchers in the aftermath.
