To be honest I don't care a huge amount. I'm perfectly happy with my LN ID.
However. It would be nice if some of these dam pirates I spend all day shooting STAYED DEAD FOR ONCE! Rather than just come back the second I decide to switch accounts.

On the other hand most pirates prefer if traders they spend shooting all day come back.
If you did it with all ID's then people would only use Spec Op ID.
I suspect the reasoning behind the perma death on the Spec Ops ID is to put people into situations where they'd rather not get into the fight because they actually have something to loose, thus reduceing the frequency of them getting into fights.
If you did that with all ID's then everyone would just get Spec Ops. Because why would you get anything else?
Also, I spose on a realistic note.
If your in the US Army as a tank commander using a M1A2 and it gets wrecked. Odds are high you'll be able to get anouther M1A2 as a replacement.
If your in the US Army as a tank commander using a T-80 and it gets wrecked. Odds are low you'll be able to get anouther T-80 replacement.
I spose my point is using LN equipment as LN you're with the guys most able to repair and replace your stuff.
Somehow I very much doubt RM operations bases carry a lot of spare hardware for LN ships.
That's the basic idea ash. People want srps to be open again but the admins can't manage the system. If persons feel the need to get a srp ship for whatever reason this option is open to them. Self regulating and with a measure of risk to support the notion that your kit isn't factory line.
As for arguments about power traders and oh no people will be mad if they lose their stuff, well, guess that the system is optional should be taken into account and the oft tauted power trader bit? Guess that's just discovery. Doubt most of you "legit" players haven't grinded a credit or two.
I have traded a lot. It doesn't count as powertradeing though because I don't trade silently because I ignore pirates I encounter. I trade silently because I am smart enough not to encounter pirates.:P
On a more serious note though I don't get why people moan about power traders, and even normal traders, all the time. I'm pretty sure most of us would be out of a job otherwise.
If all the traders were as good as mine the pirates would never find anyone worth pirateing. Most people then wouldn't bother pirateing if it pretty much consisted of stareing at an empty lane for 2 hours and finding nothing. And as a result I'd have nobody to blow up.
Having thought about it some, this sounds like a surprisingly good idea.
Allow people the option of escaping the tech nerf and flying what they like, but the ID causes it to be starflea'd on death. Surely that's the best of both worlds; want the benefit of playing with the best/coolest stuff? Sure, but you better not die!
I'd change the wording of the Spec Ops ID as it's written, as it is a tad antiquated at the moment, but the idea sounds like it warrants some consideration.
My main concern is that it wont stop people from trying to screw with the tech system anyway to get the best stuff without the "nerf" of having your ship become a starflea when it dies. That's why I'd prefer a much broader system which does it to everybody, but oh well.
