For me, I usually thrust in a circular motion while flying forward. You probably won't get hit.

All of the NPCs have the basic thrusters, and if you have any of the higher-end thrusters then you can just outrun them. Shoot a straight line until you are about 2k apart, then engage cruise. If you are within 1500 they will fire disruptors, so you need to be about 2k before engaging in order to have enough breathing space

And if you see more NPCs, bank away from them so that they are not able to get into disruptor range

Or just do what I said and save a ton of time....

If you wana cruise away, just have nothing selected. E-Kill, then engage cruise. Dodge while your cruise charges.

The NPCs wont CD you if you E-Kill then move straight into cruise. All you gotta do is survive long enough to get to full speed;)

There is no need for trying to gain distance from NPCs. Just E-kill then engage cruise 1 second after... bada-bing you're free.

Thrust, then roll and strafe at the same time. Do that untill you get far enough away form the NPC to activate cruise or untill you can dock at a station or jumphole.

Though the EK thingy is probalby the most effective method of getting away.
