You made the mistake of comparing damage per shot. As for damage per second...
Zoner turret: 370 x 4 = 1480
Solaris turret: 305 x 5 = 1525
for shield damage. For hull,
Zoner turret: 740 x 4 = 2960
Solaris turret: 610 x 5 = 3050
So they're actually very close, but the Solaris does slightly more damage and makes it easier to hit fighters.
EDIT: I use a few Solaris on my BHG-tagged, Freelancer-ID'd BHG gunship. I hate cerbs. I put two on there, and they do make it easier to kill larger ships, but it ruins your aim against the NPC fighters since their velocity is so much lower. I found myself disabling them just so I could hit the darn things easier, but that's me. Some people have no trouble. Sold the darn things for basic turrets as soon as I could.:P
However, since house turrets do about the same damage, it's really a matter of choice. If you want Solaris, there's nothing wrong with putting them on there. Zoners sell them, their Order allies made them, and the BHG has close ties with the Zoners as well, having financed some of the Freeports. You'll notice that some Zoner bases offer BHG missions, for example. That said, I'd still keep a couple of house turrets. Like I told you earlier in-game, Megiddo, my char's from Kusari, so he keeps at least two Kusari gunboat turrets.:)
' Wrote:also, a single gb, if flown correctly can EASILY avoid a bomber's supernova shots (done it meself). a VHF and bomber will have a tough time against a well armed and flown gb. but, if there was the fact that there are 2 bombers, yes. you may have a potential problem then:lol:
I didn't say anything about a single bomber... that is difficult yes.
VHF + bomber might have tough time... but the GB will have an even tougher one... if he chooses to focus on dodging/countering the bomber... the VHF will eat him up.
Igiss says: Martin, you give them a finger, they bite off your arm.

:mellow:well, in all my personal experiences, me, alone in a gb, killed a combo of a bomber/VHF, a 2 bomber combo AND a 2 VHF combo (seperate occasions obviously).
however, the encounter with 2 bombers was in 4.83, the rest in 4.84 (final)
agreed, a VHF can rip through, but not always, i think it also depends what kind of setup the VHF has, dont you think?
' Wrote:So the given numbers are NOT the damage per shot? I think you must be wrong (or DS in that case)
Don't see how DS could be wrong seeing as it directly analyzes the game files. I think the info is presented differently on a weapon info card (that you see ingame). The damage displayed in the in-game info card is for per-second only I think but not sure.
If it is then it's possible to misinterpret it as damage per shot or something.
Sorry Lightman, but something's wrong on your end. It says that's the damage per shot, and I know those things shoot more than once per second. I'm using FLstat, which also takes the data directly from the game files. No analyzing, just the raw data, so I tend to trust it more. Where does one get DataStorm? A google search brought up all the wrong things.
What Datastorm claims to be the damage per second is actualy the damage per shot (don't ask me why)

I've been mildly miffed by one-shot weapons since their implementation, oh so long ago. I remember the days when fights were a matter of who could aim better, rather than who could aim a single shot. - Virus
