THey work by using a slingshot effect, large amount of energy is stored and forms a ring between the 4 emitters, when something, anything enters the Ring, in theory is catipulted forward at tromendus speeds, same concept applys with Atmosphere skipping.
Quote:Why is it that you enter the tunnel of hyperspace, and end up somewhere around the exit? Shouldn't you exit from the gate itself?
They youse whats called a one way Wormhole, you enter the vortex, and you travel Hyperspace, and once you've traveled its designated length, you are pulled out of hyperspace back into real space.
Quote:What about gravity? Stations and planets have it, but what about ships? Do we have artificial gravity on our ships?
Yes, most likely electro magnetic feilds, and a large spinning mass at the center of the ship, with a electromagnetic field, probably the same thing that protects people from the forces of inersha.
Quote:And if so, why have engines if we can just use gravity as propulsion
A fusion reactor is much more efficent than a magnetic drive, Mag drives can disrupt electromacnetic fields, and computer systems, where as a fusion reactor provides a limitless amount of energy, at a very small cost.

Gyroscope is not a "spinning mass in the center of the ship".
A Gyroscope is a small ball with a mercury ball in the center. It's designed to determine your X, Y, and Z axis position based on a certain fixed point.
Artifical gravity is a concept.. three are three primary concepts to it.
1) Spinning sections (A.k.a. Babylon 5 Rotation) This one is the most widely accepted method of artifical gravity. It's believed if you have a spinning section of a ship/station, and it rotates at roughly the speed of the earth (60 miles per hour) you can get 1 earth unit of gravity.
2) Electomagnetic fields (a.k.a. Magnetic boots) Popular one and one NASA has experimented with repeatedly. Does not stimulate full gravity as it'd require more power from the devices, which can sort out the equipment on board.
3) Artifical Gravity Generators (a.k.a. SciFi) How these items work is a mere fantasy at play. A lot of technical documents are available but a lot don't really fit into reality. The ones I've read out of the TNG Technical Manual (Star Trek: The Next Generation) fit reality to a T, but it's feasibility is about 1,000 years away.
These are thr three most widely used.
As for as internal inertia.. That's what "Internal Dampers" are for. They create a internal "shield" to prevent any outside forces from damaging the inside.

if u think a fighter shouldt be able to take out a battle ship go watch star wars retun of the jedi.
A A-wing (which in princaple is a lightly armed high speed scout) nutting spectcular, it isnt even a B-wing or Y-wing so it isnt a bomber. Takes out a SSD (Super Star Destryer) which is the most feard ship in the unerverse.
Lets Compar Sizes..
1 person Scout Vs 4km Lond 2km Wide Invincable Weapon Of Mas Distrution.
OR
Mellennium Falcon Vs Planet Sized Death Star.
Just rember anything is possiable if u got the weapons and the skills to pull it off

Only reason that happened is cause they got *LUCKY* and crashed it into the bridge.
By all rights, that ship should have survived.
Bad scripting i call it

I dont use Star Wars as a way of defining cannon Sci-Fi technology because its technology is what can be called "plot technology". Technology designed not to look realistic, but to fulfill the plot.
The death star is a good example. A massive mass destruction weapon which has a conduit that goes straight to its reactor core. Thats stupid. How can a race, with 10000 years of experience in weapons design, construct a station with such an obvious vulnerability?
Its like having a dreadnought with super tick armor which has a conduit that goes from starboard to the ship's arsenal. And guess what? the conduit is wide enough for a cruise missile to fit in!....
Going back to topic...
FL technology isnt designed to be realist. It is designed to make the game fun and playable. For example, laser weapons that fire laser bolts at a slower than light speed. Or tachyon weps which goes slower than light too. (Tachyon is a theoretical particle that travels faster than light. In fact, it violates all laws of physics because it gains energy when diminishing speed, and loose it when accelerating. But it is predicted by quantum physics..)
Or planets that are static, no gravity, distances, no true 3D, etc...
Going back to topic again...
Kane is right. BS in 4.78 are weak.
But kane, take a look at 4.79 BS. They are way stronger. Ive tried to lower the shields of Wolfpack's battlestar galactica with a RH bomber with dual novas and i couldnt. Shields regenerate fast enough to make a single bomber attack impossible.
And if you dont have novas, forget it. BS shields regenerate at 4500 units/second, energy weapons of a fighter cannot penetrate shields. So a single fighter is no longuer a threat. I think that even a group of 4 fighters will not be able to take down a BS without novas.
The only problem that remains is that BS weps use way too much energy. Mount 20 Cerberus turrets on a bs and you wont be able to fire more than 2-3 rounds...
(If you find any mistake in my English, please let me know via a PM)
(Really, I speak terrible English, so please, tell me if I make mistakes. I'd like to improve it a bit )
I think the Cerberus Turrets are supposed to take a lot of energy. Like the Rotor Blitz turrets (Or whatever they are), the ones that are based off alien tech, they arn't normal and have several advantages. Thus, they take more energy to use.
And I am very happy this the news on battleships. This will make the fighter pilots have to work together now! No more of this, "I pwnt a BS by myself!" fluff.
However, if you DO manage to take on a BS (Player, mind you) in a fighter, that gives you some more bragging rights. :)
This is the real true story of rock and roll; it was not about anything more then, how to live your life, as a gangster, in sartorial splendor, and turning the world into a place where normality would never return again...- Malcolm McLaren
When they were more balanced in 4.77 (when there werent Novas [or was that 4.76?]) I could take down a BS with an eagle and wildfires. No Tizonas or Novas, just a sunslayer.
