I was thinking about unmounting weapons from my 5K transports but finally left them on. Yes, you can´t defend yourself anyway but it´s about a feeling. Pirate know that if he will not be really stupid I can´t shoot him, I know it too. But in a ship without guns, I´m feeling much more defenceless and pirate feels superiority. Like when you are pointing a gun on a man without any gun.
So despite the odds are same and you can use your guns only to shoot NPCs when lawful NPC are blocking jump gate because part of the formation is shooting them, I have my guns.
And no armor and freighter shield? Definitely no. Imagine that inRP. You are part of a crew of a flying brick with no guns, no armor and shield weak as a hell flying regions like Taus or Omegas. Would you want to work here? Really desperate feeling ;)

Bingo. If you're flying from, say, Manhattan to Detroit and back, or Manhattan to Ft. Bush and back - and that's IT - sure, you can, as a role-playing person, go with that, no problem.
Would you, in all seriousness, try that on the route I normally fly, with my ID? Of course, the answer is somewhere between no and hell no. Cap 8 Shire with 12 guns on it - because nothing says love like running into an NPC Ossie in Delta, or 4 NPC Corsairs or Hessians in O-41.
Oh, that's right - you guys don't really want to role-play as traders, though, do you? (Yes, the gauntlet HAS been thrown!)

' Wrote:*shrug* Powertraders will be powertraders I guess. Do as you feel. Me, I prefer a bit of armor and 12 guns on my transport... Giving the odd pirate a good roughing up before paying. More fun to do that then to just haul stuff lane after lane.

Please try dodging nova torpedoes in a 12 gun transport. It will take literally two minutes for you to lose half your guns. On the other hand, they give gunboats a good run for their money.
If you fly a GMG whale, the opposite is the case; you can laugh at a bomber which doesn't have a supernova (which are quite a lot of them these days), but gunboats get a free win.
My storks have the 5 forward guns but no 6th tail gun (messes up the aiming), cau6, advanced shields, and capital thrusters. That leaves them with 4700 cargo exactly--way plenty for me--and they are able to survive a lot of things.

This is the exact feeling I want for my stork crew;).

I don't roleplay as a trader, I roleplay as workers for Cryer. If you're a freelance self-employed trader, sure deck your BWT out with cap armour and all the guns etc. Working for these insanely powerful spacecorps? Probably isn't looking so rosy. Look at reality. Run the numbers: my piece of turd stork makes a little more money and costs a little less, and that's all the company paying for the ship is going to care about. There's a bar rumour on Denver about how Cryer only posts single people to Atka, because it's way more dangerous than working on a planet, and the insurance payout for when you get killed by Outcasts is much lower for single people.
So I feel it's pretty solid rp. Stick that in yr gauntlet.

That works - because it fits the RP of the filthy, greedy corporation supporting you from behind.
We fly Shires because we're hauling cargo from civilization (house space) out to No Man's Land (Nomad's Land?) - Omicron Delta - to supply Dabadoru. So we need the guns - and seriously, is any self-respecting bounty hunter going to fly a ship that DOESN'T bristle with guns?

' Wrote:Can't say I care for 100 or 200 units of cargo space on my Crane, the few thousand credits you loose to that ? Peanuts, not even a slight nuisance.
Also, who needs Battletransports with CAU8, when a AU8 Crane cuts it for most pirates anyways 8)
Problem is not that few bucks you loose due to smaller cargo hold. Problem is that all resources required for building base are in amount divisible by 5 000. So you have to take one route more to bring few hundred cargo which left to complete demand of this type of commodity. And if is it a route which take 15-20 minutes one way, it´s little annoying.
