Im looking to start a fighter character and been looking at fighters. Ive seen the Virage from time to time. The Marauder, however, I rarely see, Ive only seen one at Newark. Which ship would be best? I want some firepower, but some manuverability would be nice as well.
Virage is total crap comparing to any other VHF
Marauder is heavy fighter, with firepower bit less than standard HF, paper armor but with superior agility (fastest heavy fighter around, beats even LF's) and Sabre powercore allowing it to use mini razor with ease.
Going agility and ability not to be hit you should go Marauder. If you can dodge and avoid all sorts of high power weapons like nuclear mines this ship will serve you good.

This is wrong though. Marauder is not the fastest HF and it doesn't beat LFs...

lol dunno where you take info from , but you are way off the scale.
First, fastest HF is Moldy Crow, yeah the junk pile.
Marauder is not even the second most agile HF - that would be Agama
Heck, Marauder is not even the 7th fastest HF, and it most certainly not faster than LFs. In fact, Marauder is just a bit more agile than Eagle. The problem with Marauder is the damage output 4 class 8 guns make it a little low, and even with 2 class 9 guns it doesn't make up for it, core is great though, which allows this ship to use very effectively mini-razor or if you are not into it - energy heavy guns.
To OP:
Virage is horrible, don't use it, and if you wish to use HF - use Bayonet. (Though if you are keen on either Virage or Marauder - defiantly marauder)
I've flown both and I still like the Marauder better. All the guns are more in the center and its profile is small, making it difficult to hit. The Virage has its guns spread out and it has a larger hit box. I sometimes wish they would remove those huge dual cannons that server no point. I've also flown the Bayonet with all missiles, (dont do that) and all civi guns. I guess you could say the Bayonet is good go between the two other fighters mentioned. I am happy that now Wiki lists the turning rate of the fighters. That helps me a lot to determine what I'm losing by getting more manuverability.
*sighs* STILL with this Amazing ultimate super turn on a dime feature that is out there, you'll never out turn a bomber in your light fighter, apparently.
Do remember, please, you can have the USS Macross super duper fighter but if you can't fly it as well as your opponent, don't be suprised to die, a lot.
They are not too expensive ships to try one for a few weeks then try another one to see how it goes.
Sometimes, when all you want is to gain your freedom, you must be willing to risk it all.
