That would basically just make it a bigger, worse heavy GB.
With the civ GB coming out in the next update it doesnt really seem needed, but hey theres nothing AGAINST it either, so... sure I guess, could be a good look I guess. But the fact that it can be scanned and identified will totally eliminate any pretentions to being a wolf in sheeps clothing.

The idea is to have something that puts out enough fire, and can take enough damage to essentially "tank" the cruiser for the convoy. With a traditional gunship you're not really doing enough damage to prevent the cruiser from ignoring you and popping haulers.
The idea is nice, but pvp wise I still think bomber escort is better. Transports can just stay out of range while bomber tear down the cruiser. It's not needed to get into it's range and if the cruiser is kept CD, it won't get close to the transports.
Also the battletransport with gunboat guns should have like 2k cargo, else Lucky idea of creating a civilian boat for companies is easier.

2k works I guess, I'd hate it to become an OP powertrader ship though. There should be something to confine it to a support role.

Giving a transport GB guns and shield wont let it take on a cruiser.

How about Salvager? it has 3,350 cargo and 7!!! GB turrets...
Why not making some "copies" of some tradeships (or new ones) and make em to a "GBT" too? o.o
Since the Salvager is the only one transport who has GB turrets ... mh!
Look at the Anki... its a small little cute Freighter with a HELL of firepower...
I almost thought it was a better fighter then VHF's... you can even destroy a GB with it in seconds...
since many pirates using Bomber/GB/CRUISER!!! to get some "donation" from a ... 2k Transport... with the comment "pay or die" <- HOW nice that is ... srsly...
why not put some GB turrets on transports? RP gets more intressting if the transport can offer some resist and not going down after a "pay or die" ...
