Reassuringly, Layla explained John the two options they had.
"Look, Mike is right, it's the only thing we can do right now, if we sit and wait, we'll choke or freeze with high certainty. If we keep clear a way out, there's a fair chance we can escape, and this is only possible through using the thrusters to melt the snow and ice. The shields should actually be able to withstand the concentrated heat.. as long as we have enough power."
"Shields, you say? How can you be so sure we have enough power, huh? If it gets screwed up, I swear I will kill myself." Obviously terrified John shivered from the cold in Layla's Templar. Seeing everyone was just standing still, looking at John, he shouted. "What are you waiting for? Get those engines warmed up!" Layla tried to calm him down, but before she could do anything, John made a few steps back. "How the hell can I be calm!? We are about to get our guts frozen off in this goddamn cold desert with no sight of civilization, and no way to contact anyone on the bases around? If this is what you call a holiday, let me disagree with you." He sat on a barrel lying a corner of the cargo hold. "I already faced death, and I am not willing to face her again." He sighed deeply, and said quietly. "Warm up the engines."

It wasn't the first, nor the last time, that Austin had been in one of these hopeless situations. Taking in a deep breath, he closed the compartment he was looking through and gathered the survival gear that was present in Layla's Templar. On his way back, placed the items one-by-one on the cargo-bay floor; Flashlight, some food rations, two thermal blankets, and an empty canteen.
It was also clear that Austin was the only one who had dealt with such a situation before, when he was stranded in the middle of space within his Templar out in the Orkney system, thankfully... he was on land this time and knew resources available to him, Armed Forces survival training would surely pay off.
Grabbing the flashlight and one of the thermal blankets, he let out a sigh, "Alright, you three wait here, I'm going to go gather the rest of the survival gear from the other ships and bring them back here. If I'm not back within the hour, I'm probably frozen somewhere or lost, but whatever. This is base camp until we can figure out how long this blizzard is going to be."
With that, went to open the cargo bay door, only to curse under his breath as roaring wind and snow started falling inside. "Never mind." He groaned after struggling to get the door shut once again, shaking his head and looking over towards the others. "Lass, you wouldn't have a shovel, would you?"
John saw a shovel lying around in the cargo room. He grabbed it, and tossed it to Austin. "Try not to freeze there." After he left, he realised that he will not be able to get all the Layla's useless stuff there by himself, so he armed with a very thick coat, his pilot helmet and a spade which was on the same spot as the shovel, and started climbing out of the Templar. "I'll be right back." He shouted at Layla and Mike, and shut the cargo doors.

She sighed heavily after the hatch had closed and the two had ventured into a freezing environment which had the power to kill both of them.
"Frankly, I had a different idea of these holidays."
She stared at the wall in front, her face now expressed deathly fear and her eyes gleamed in a watery manner. With a greatly lowered voice she whispered:
"That idea was crap.. if only I hadn't insisted on flying off to this death trap..."
Minutes of complete silence passed. Layla didn't seem to have noticed Mike's remark. She blinked quickly one time after another attempting to dry her watery eyes and then focused on Mike.
"You're being very optimistic on this matter."
Mike had closed his eyes and didn't mind her. Layla threw a glance at the hatch which was closed. She startled, looked around her anxiously, grabbed a coat from a crate and reached for the hatch. It opened with a fizzling sound, the penetrating cold air quickly deafened her respiratory system. Nevertheless she crawled outside, trying to find John somewhere in this white, freezing hell.
John was trying to find Austin in this blizzard, but his footprints were quickly losing in the snow. Shivering, he came across something that looked like... cockpit. John's escape pod. At least he knows where he is.

Austin held his eyes closed as he drew in a deep cold breath. He'd been out in the storm for at least three minutes by now and was chilled to the bone. He wasn't exactly prepared for a freezing cold blizzard, nor had actually packed the necessary equipment - a heavier jacket - to survive.
On top of that... he seemed to have gotten turned around. Huddled with the shovel in hand he forced his eyes open and looked around the... well, everything was a sheet of white snow.
"Bloody brilliant, Austin. If you can't get shot down in space, you sure as hell are going to freeze to death out here." He shouted, against the roar of the wind. Slowly scanning his surroundings he made out a shadowy male figure moving around nearby, and... ultimately decided to slowly make his way towards it.
"Clay? Havering? That you." He shouted again, though felt he had no effect.
