But yea, not shooting gold is not that big a disadvantage. Still, most people don't use it. I have a few loaded on every tank now, but I avoid to shoot them most of the time. Too expensive and more often than not regular APs are enough.
The WG NA staff regularly holds a Tank Company event, giving the NA players a chance to win some gold, as well as drawing players to the Tank Company Battle feature of the World of Tanks Game.
It has become a tradition, that the last battle during the event, the WG NA Tank company does something completely unexpected and really crazy. Amazingly those shenanigans most often result in a win, as well as expressions of surprise and loads of laughter on both teams.
The event held Friday 02 November 2012 - a Champion level Tank Company event - was no different. For the last battle of the event, everybody in the team was requested to jump into a M18 Hellcat, or another US tank. Of course we had to have one odd man out, who selected the only Tier VIII tank on the team, the new British Centurion tank.
The battle we ended up with after entering the queue, was held on the Highway map - Purely coincidence that the (almost) All-American tank team got a final battle on a map inspired by the heartland of the U.S of A. But a map well suited for the team's composition of tanks.
Especially since the Red team appearently expected us to camp and fight it out in the town approach to our base, due to the high amount of Tank Destroyers on our team.
But our Tank Company leader, the NA Server GM known as SgtGrunt had other plans... A strategy totally unexpected by our enemy, as can be seen both in the Battle chat as well as in the actual battle in this special video showing the action simultaneously from different viewpoints, courtesy of 7 of the 9 M18 Hellcats in the Tank Company - Kitty got Claws, people..
And yes we did use a "stradegy", dear Red team scout.. Just not the strategy You expected

We hope they had as much fun as we had in the battle.
The old battle cry from Open beta and release days on EU/NA "HETZERS GONNA HETZ!!!" still holds true - More so now in 8.1 with the availability of HEAT premium ammo for credits. Personally I do hope that it will be changed so the price is much higher in credits, or revoked back to Gold only availability for Premium Ammo.
Have a couple of Premium tanks for credits grinding, and you can use premium ammo allways in your battles on the other tanks.
Untill such changes happens, I'll use the Premium ammo on my mid and low tiers, for that extra "umph" resulting in battles like this one, while grinding the credits for it with my premium tank.
