Does the 800x600 resolution scale it out over the screen?
If so, just make is so that the resolution isn't stretched helps a tone in getting more FPS.
But you'll have to do with black borders around the actual screen.
The actual ripping starts at around 175+ FPS if your FPS is inconsistent.
When you are on a constant 180fps you'll have a constant jitter.

The point is to put those values in perfoptions.ini
color_bpp= 16
depth_bpp= 16
The only drawback is that game will be looking a bit comics-like, though it gives two times more FPS (that is how I feel difference on my netbook) even at high resolution and maximum settings.
I did that, and it doesn't change anything for me... No comic-like colors for me, nor better performance.

Put a "read only" flag on Perfoptions.ini
Also, check if there is in general options, in screen resolution color depth is shown.
For me it is 1366x768x16 (I am launching from DLauncher with desktop resolution, but perfoptions fuses its color depth parameter).
Also, if your performance was good before, you probably won`t feel much difference.

I did put it read only. And no, the color depth is nowhere shown. I'm using the DLauncher, too. Do I have to add a command line or such?
Well, I'm playing on 1024x600, and that option isn't available in the ingame settings. Therefore if I change it, I've to restart the game. I've set my resolution in DLauncher (or as command line in the exe: -dx).
Can you please post your in-game general options screenshot?
Also your Perfoptions.ini`s last part (which sets resolution and color depth).
Also, what if you try to set color depth to 16 in your settings (Provided by graphic card or Windows "desktop-rightclick" settings).

I can't change the resolution ingame, nor in the game menu.

I can't run the game then. Gives me a graphic card error.
