RE: CR|-Hedone.[FF169] Baffin Incursion
I will dispense with the pleasantries! I am demanding an explanation from the commander of the CR|-Hedone.[FF169] after receiving this report. Report
He pursued an Outcast ship from Tau 29 into Baffin space, a fire fight which began in Tau 29 and carried into Baffin space, a no fire zone.
I dealt with the Outcast in question for his part and based on the evidence, I find the commander of the Hedone to be the aggressor.
I know of your fight with the Outcasts but it does NOT concern me. Carrying a fight into Baffin DOES! Remember, all are free to pass through Baffin and even carry out business there so whatever differences you may have are left on either side of the jumpholes to my system.
The Colonials have always been a group I respect and have had good relations with. I would like to hear from the commander of this ship as I would like an explanation for his actions. I don't think this is a lot to ask.
I am surprised to see you this way, generally our Discordian allies maintain a very agreeable manner - something I have admired and welcomed in these troubled times.
Now as for the situation here... with the evidence given to you by this Don, one of our Thanatos cruisers was in combat with this battleship when the Outcast then decided to move the fight to Baffin? Although you do not hold the same rules as the Freeports and their No-Fire Zones, intruding upon your home under fire is rather ill-advised to say the least. If
The actions of your pilot suggest that he feels this was also some insult to Eris, although since you have a problem here I assume he will also be talked to.
On top of that, I have already debriefed the pilot of the Hedone and it appears the Maltese have attempted to mislead you. I feel it is best to let Fleet Officer Teresa Bradshaw speak for herself.
Now as a final note from me, I hope we can continue our good relations and that you remember to consult your allies before jumping to conclusions based on the fragmented evidence of a 'neutral' party.
It would seem that the good Doctor has much if is information rather muddled and I hope that the events of this incident can be clarified rather simply. There was never any action between the Outcast and the Hedone in Tau 29.
Having reviewed the Outcast's complaint that the Doctor forwarded, I find the complaint rather laughable. One can only believe that the lack of timestamps on the provided images was done purposefully in order to to be misleading. For this report I shall make reference to the Outcasts own images since they are already apparently in evidence by the TAZ.
The Hedone had received a report via emergency channels of an Outcast Battleship in the Leeds system which downed a Council ship in that system. It was pursued into Magellan by a mercenary and it is our understanding that the mercenary and a Legion ship engaged the Outcast in combat there. They were unable to down the Outcast and broke off contact. The Outcast then apparently made his way from Magellan to Cortez, where it was spotted by a Colonial Eros class scout ship. Being outclassed in his light fighter the scout ship reported that the Outcast appeared to be heading towards our home in Coronado. The Hedone set course from its station near Pecos to investigate.
The Outcast appeared at range on scanners between Barrier Gate Station and the Baffin jump hole.

This was the Outcast's opening transmission.

[17.12.2012 03:33:16] Terror: Don Rizza: Take a look at your scanners, they should give you a few pointers
On gaining a closer proximity to the Outcast, near the Baffin jump hole, a cruise disruptor was launched. As it was done at range, it was deflected by an asteroid.
Quote:[17.12.2012 03:35:31] Terror: Don Rizza: Are you shooting at us, colonial?
[17.12.2012 03:36:19] CR|-Hedone.[FF169]: I would think you could guess that answer
As the Outcast had previously provided a facetious response to us, we chose a facetious response in return.
Quote:[17.12.2012 03:36:28] Terror: Don Rizza: Touche
That he recognized the facetiousness of the reply was in regards to his own prior answer is relevant in his own statement.
The Outcast then utilized the jump hole to Baffin. The Hedone, a few K away still, followed to observe and track the battleship. Inside Baffin system, the Hedone was between 8K and 9K from the Outcast, just keeping it within scanner range to track its progress.
There was no combat in Baffin the entire distance from the Coronado jump hole to the Tau 29 jump hole. As a note to the good Doctor, how much range does he believe Colonial cruiser guns to have? There is no cruise disruptor or gun in our in-service inventory that has a 9K range that I am aware of.
On nearing the area of the Tau 29 jump hole we fully expected the Outcast to utilize it and make his way through Tau 29. At full cruise we noticed that the range to the Outcast begin to drop dramatically. We wrongly guessed that he had actuated the jump hole to Tau 29 via "slow dock" procedure. His deception was well played in that he had apparently instead EK'd his way towards the jump hole in order to charge his guns and turn to face our ship as it closed the distance.

The Outcast was equipped with a cloaking device and could have cloaked at any time while being followed. He had ample opportunity to exit Baffin and be well out of range of the Hedone's guns. Instead he chose to turn and begin hostilities inside Baffin system.
The Hedone announced it was defending after being fired upon. My question to the Doctor is why, if it had been an ongoing engagement from Coronado, would the Hedone suddenly announce it was defending itself? Clearly, the Outcast was shooting at the Hedone, not vice versa.
The Hedone then informed TAZ that it was under fire and proceeded to utilize pulse weapons and cruse disruptors to keep the Outcast at bay until TAZ arrived to sort the situation.
Quote:[17.12.2012 03:41:08] Terror: Don Rizza: Let's do this
Again the Outcast shows his aggression and wanting a fight. The Hedone continued with pulse and cruise disruptor however, waiting for TAZ ships to arrive.

A message to a TAZ contact while under fire. At that time the Hedone was cleared to return actual fire.

[17.12.2012 03:49:35] Terror: Don Rizza: Use the inside of your head, Sir
Now, the Hedone had launched a cruise disruptor in Coronado, which was deflected by an asteroid, thus never hitting the Outcast. After coming under fire, the Hedone did fire cruise disruptors in order to hold it for TAZ personnel to deal with. TAZ was aware of this. That the CDs were fired after coming under fire is a simple fact, yet the Outcast somehow wishes everyone to believe that the Colonial Republic managed to slow him up with a cruise disruptor from a 9K range?
Quote:[17.12.2012 03:50:03] Terror: Don Rizza: Problem solved
[17.12.2012 03:50:04] Death: CR|-Hedone.[FF169] was put out of action by Terror (Gun)
Had the Hedone not acted purely in a defensive mode while awaiting arrival of TAZ personnel to arrive, it could have easily engaged cruise engines and left the area. Instead, it acted defensively, used pulse and disruptors to hold the Outcast on station until TAZ arrived, and doing so at great cost and heavy damage received. If the good doctor is to continue to insist that the Hedone was the aggressor, then I would ask that he provide proof that the Outcast ship received any damage to its hull at any time during the event.
Thus, one can conclude that the Outcast set out from the beginning to make an issue with the TAZ inside Baffin.

Quote:[17.12.2012 03:41:08] Terror: Don Rizza: Let's do this
The Outcast purposefully chose to make an engagement within Baffin, even though he had plenty of opportunity to utilize the Tau 29 jump hole or to cloak away while at a distance of 9K from the Hedone.
Probable reasoning for doing this and the subsequent "complaint" to the TAZ is to garner the favor of reduced watchfulness of Outcast capital ships transiting Baffin to the Colonial home system of Coronado. As this is the likely case, it would seem that the good Doctor has fallen for it hook, line, and sinker. Will the Doctor actually allow this charade to tarnish the good relations between the TAZ and Colonial Republic? The Outcasts own images presented as evidence condemns himself rather than the Colonial Republic.

Yes I was upset when I got this. I mean, wouldn't you? All too often we get people carrying a fight into Baffin. I was looking for an explanation and it seems you provided one. I had only the evidence presented to me when I made my initial inquiry. In terms of guncams, they are still all I have.
I'm not trying to cause friction between our people. We've always been good neighbors and don't think this will change things. One incident, which seems well explained to my satisfaction, is hardly worth ruining things.
My apologies for any hurt feelings. I just ask for better discretion when it comes to such things. There are some pretty cunning pilots out there who are quite good and creating traps.
Yours in Eris,
Dr. John Henry Holliday
TAZ Administrator
I am glad that we were able to sort this out before it became an issue. The Maltese have always been desperate in their attempts to defeat us.
Speaking of good neighbours, a couple of our pilots have encountered yours while on the way to what appears to be a new station of yours. Our Movers are always keen to have a new job to help out with, especially if the destination has a bar. If you require help in its construction feel free to contact us. We could also arrange for our Gallic allies to procure any specialist commodities you may require.
