Hey guys, so I just hit 600 million credits and I was looking to purchase a battleship for the first time ever and I am interested in the Gallic Royal Navy Battleship since it looks better than most imo but I'm not sure if it would be a smart choice. I don't know much about the GRN and from what I've read on the wiki, Gallia wants to conquer all of Sirius. So, would that mean that all of sirius would be hostile to me?
Also, would it be logical to be able to RP assaults on the different houses? I mainly want a BS to explore all of sirius but it would be fun to get into some PvP with it as well.
Where do I go to read up on which houses are at war with each other? I know Bretonia vs Kusari, Liberty vs Rheinland but I'm a bit rusty on the others.
Any help is appreciated. Thx guys, hope to see you in space!
Also when it comes to battleships, the stats on the wiki are deceiving. There is a big difference in size of the ships, and lots of other little things like turret placement and arcs. My personal view is that in general the small-sized medium BS's are the "best" (Red Hessian Battleship, Liberty Dreadnought, Bretonian Battleship) against a pilot of similar skill once you are accustomed with the basics of battleship PVP.
I have a GRN Battleship and it is a PVP-magnet. More or less all of Sirius is hostile to you, and a lot of players like to shoot at you as soon as they spot you. It's great for action and it's a fun heavy battleship with a few tricks up its sleeve. All of Gallia, the Tau's and the upper parts of Bretonia is your playground, but you shouldn't take it to Kusari or Liberty.
Capital ships are bad for exploring all of Sirius - all houses have RP restrictions in place for foreign capital ships. A gunboat is a much better choice for exploration. If you want to explore non-house space in a capital ship, Zoners are the way to go. However there's not a lot of PVP to be had on a Zoner ID. An Outcast Battleship or Dreadnought have a very generous ZOI and ample opportunity to PVP - you can take it to a lot of places, but will get RP trouble from some Outcasts for taking your ship to places like Liberty.
Hope this helps clarifying some of your questions. You are welcome to drop me a PM.

Awesome, thank you for the reply. I guess I will stick to exploring sirius with a smaller ship. Also, thanks for the link to the shipyards. I haven't found anything I want yet but it's still nice to know where to look for discounts. I guess I will have to decide which house I want a BS in. Liberty was my first choice but there are so many Navy caps already that I don't think it would be as fun.
Where do I go to find out the restrictions on capships? I want to know where I will be able to go before purchasing one. What about the BHG battleship or battlecruiser? Are BHG caps restricted to Omegas? Anyway, ty for the help.
There's no strictly defined ZOI in Disco, yet it can be against the rules to do certain things out of your ZOI (for instance a Corsair pirating in Liberty) and it can in other cases have RP repercussions (for instance an Outcast pirating in Liberty). It's confusing - also for players that's been here for years and years. Your best bet would be to flip through the Laws of Sirius, the wiki for various maps and information on factions and ID's, as well as the various faction subforums.
BHG caps are limited by the associated BHG Core ID which doesn't allow BHG capital ships in any systems with a jumpgate. You are basically limited to the Omegas and the Omicrons.
The looks of GRN's BS are deceiving. If you know how to shoot with a forward gun and good at head on attacks, then the ship is good, otherwise it is not as good as others. You might consider online play of Gallia, before buying the ship. As far as I know Gallia is not that active. You can go to Discovery of Discovery server and test out different battleships.

I would recommed the Liberty Dreadnought, Bretonia Battleship, Hessian Battleship, or Mako. All of those in skilled hands can kill Heavy BS. Liberty Dreadnought is good overall, same with Bretonias. I personally have both Bretonia and Liberty, and I love them. Mako is a little hard to use since only can fly in Oicrons and Omegas, and its oppopnent is the Osiris, Legate, and Marduk. The Valor is a nice ship no doubt, but a skilled Bretonia BS pilot or Liberty, will kill it.
If you go after some exciting RP, rather than Cattleship*) I would recommend Cattlebruiser**), especially if your char's RP is sirius explorer, and let me tell you some secret, now in Disco we are free to use any open faction ship with any ID as long as the ID allow it to do so, but you should take a look at this first before buying something
Thank you guys for the replies! Lots of good info for me to ponder. While I was thinking about which battleship to purchase, I continued to run trade and now have enough to buy a couple BS so I might try out different things. I did however purchase an IMG battlecruiser from another player on the ships for sale section of the forums but I am a newb and don;t know how to actually use the codes that were sent to me Can anyone point me in the right direction on what to do once I've received the ship codes? I can't seem to find a tutoiral on it. Thx again guys
Edit: Nevermind, got it figured out. See you in space!!
make sure you have 2 million on the character you are on (it's the fee for /movechar).
also rather than buying a couple of BS's you should invest in armor - it's pretty expensive but sometimes you can get a Capital Armor Upgrade VII (the second best) for 350-400 million credits in the Open Market section of the forum. Armor is vital, and can be moved from ship to ship if you decide to get a new capital ship.
I bought cap armor 6 for the battlecruiser as I don;t see it getting much pvp action but it will help. I plan on buying cap 7 for whatever BS I buy though. Cap 8 just seems really expensive for a margianly gain compared to cap 7. I tested out the battlecruiser and it was a lot of fun. I was able to take out a couple npc outcast dreads and even some nomad battleships
However, I realize I kind of suck at flying such a large ship. I found a video of someone using what they call "turret steering" and it seems learning this would be awesome and make me a much better Cap pilot. Anyone have links to a tut on that? Or maybe can show me in connecticut? This community is awesome by the way, very helpful and newb friendly it seems
