I was wondering if the following idea might be considered to help balance out Player Owned Bases. It seems to me that it might be a good idea to limit the number of ships that are able to be stored on one at any given time. The idea is to limit the amount of resources beyond the static storage on base that can be put onboard. This could be a numerical ship limit, though I propose a more fitting solution be related to the sum cargo size of all vessels thereon.
The reason I propose this is because one could potentially turn even a Core 1 station into an infinite siege worthy station simply by storing enough Transports/Barges onboard to outlast an extended assault. It seems weird to potentially have 3 barges(120k cargo) endlessly supply a Core 1(30k cargo) base. The assaulters need to know they have a chance or the whole system is broken.
My proposal is to have a vessel storage limit related to the size of the vessels docked onboard tied to either the Core level (i.e. 15k/Core level) or related to the storage capacity of the base (i.e. 1 unit of vessel cargo per 5 units of base cargo). The first idea at least provides a little more uniformity to the situation, though the latter provides better options for those who go cargo storage happy. Either option is viable and put forth for your consideration.
There are risks and rewards to owning/operating a base like this. Right now the rewards outweigh the risks when you can endlessly supply your base like this. If you're not going to nerf/adjust the consumption rates when attacked, then at least don't let the base have access to infinite supplies. Make cutting off external resources and wearing the station's supplies down a legitimate alternative to pure DPS requirements if nothing else.
Implementing taxes for Jump Gates and Trade Lanes. Maybe getting rid of ore commodities will make pirates to ask less credits and traders to be more active. Reimplementing the battleship license or maybe restrict the capital ships to official factions. There is too much cap spam in Sirius. And too much power mining/trading.

have to agree with that one.. with the cap spam then. but the current ships you cannot simply remove. It might be solved with the old Guard id's.. Maybe make it Some ID wich a battleship must have to fly at least. (its a possible sollution offcourse)

I didn't say nothing about removing them. Just to restrict them.
EDIT: Oh, and of course, you should definitely get rid of a feature of cheat system. When you press Y, there should be seen only player names and ranks. Not group number or systems where players are in.
This topic is big. so...really annoy to search about what i came up with.
So here is the idea:
usually Miners are the most and Best asset to Traders who haul ores.
Sometimes you need a miner. you go and check Skype and ...maybe you dont find any miner there.
But Sometimes a Miner is there...but not registred in any skype channel or so.
To solve this:
you make for example a BMM or IMG or Krugrer and etc... miner. With Mining Company ID and IFF
then you type: /reg miningship. once you hit enter..your ship name will be registred on a List . stored on server.
back to the trader, If trader wants to find some miner..he just writes :
/list BMMminer or /list IMGminer etc. then all miners name will be appear on screen.
Since Miner Register Manually , it will Prevent From Monitoring Traders or cops with BMM ID or freelancers with IMG ID ...etc.
Note 1: Only Mining ships with MINING COMPANY ID can register on that list.
Note 2: Only Trading Company ID's like : IC or Samura or Kishiro or USI or DSE ...etc can use this system to find miners
Note 3: Once you Log out...your name will be removed from list.
Perhaps...this will Boost the mining and hauling in a way or so.
thanks for your time.
On OIIO's and versatil's posts you can see the two extreme opinions about metagaming.

The status quo now is:
-Hauler logs on in New Berlin.
-Hauler checks the player list, sees a certain fella "DHC-<Generic Germanish name>"
-Hauler sends PM: "Guten tag sir, are you perhaps a vessel with mining capabilities"
-DHC: "Tag, no, but a corporate vessel will be summoned shortly."
-DHC logs off his bomber/hauler, logs on a mining char.
-DHC fills you up, you chat a bit about how dangerous O7 is.
-He receives the quick cash from filling you up, resumes his previous business.
-You haul like a boss.
Now, excuse me but it seems you are a tad too lazy for the above interaction, and would rather:
-Log on generic hauler.
-/listMiner
-Miner found in Okinawa.
-Hauler(PM): Mine for me, 4K/ore.
-Miner: Come.
-Silent fill-up ensues, miner F1's after he fills you up.
Also, it would be hard (although not impossible) to iRP explain why mining companies would reveal their employees' ship names to everyone.
Bear in mind it will be a metagaming facility that will be even further metagamed.
Id est:
-Player A logs on their eg.Samura money maker.
-/listIMGminer
-Returns 2 miners in Tau-23.
-Player A logs Outcast pirate.
-The rest is not hard to figure out.

Now, especially during times when the server load is <100, which happens quite a bit when I'm available for playing, it's veery possible to travel around all systems outside Lolberty and encounter not a single soul.
That's why you *have* to have some idea 'bout where other people are. If I wanted to play on my own, I'd press the top button on the Main Menu

Then they should change systems with zones like name of the houses, Taus, Edge worlds and so on. We all know about that ugly metagaming which happens now.
Players on the same group:
Player one: "Look! 5 [P] in cali! let's kill!"
Player two: "Hold on! Going to shout on skype channel!"
20 players log in and they say:
"Gank!gank!gank!gank!"
Sure this has been suggested before, but the DSE needs to scotch tape 8 Camaras together and sell that as a new ship. I love the Camara but its getting to be too much of a low level ship to be any fun in borderworlds etc, and all the other ships are waay too big or slow for my taste
