Exactly, and that's also the part of the problem, not the reason why things should stay they way they are.
The idea to remove BHG's ability to field capital ships in non-house systems through their "Guard ID" was not a nice one. Yes, it made sense from the RP pov and some Core members (merely a presumption), including situations when they've been flying on ships with different IDs looked very disappointed when various indie BHG groups (even if it was perfectly fitting their RP) used BHG Core ID as BHG Guard ID. (was clearly visible from their sarcastic comments in local).
So this "loophole" was removed and now BHG left with inferior shipline* in comparsion to most pirate groups due to their lack of capitals, while they have both resources and shipbuilding capabilities to make them. Current situation is not justified nor from RP, nor from balance, nor from "logical" point of view. I'm just repeating myself here...
*Judging only by available ship classes. Balance issues with certain gunboat belong to a totally different topic.
TL;DR - allow BHG ID to field capital ships under same restrictions, as it was in 85.

I wouldn't say our ships are inferior, but I understand where you're coming from.
A big problem with the BHG's ships is that most (if not all) of them are meant to be used in groups.
I would like things to be opened up to them, but I don't think cap ships are the direction to go in as much as I'd like them to.
So, what do I propose?
New ship types.
Moreover, hybrids. That could beef up our tech a bit more without having to resort to cap ships. I'm thinking of things along the line of cruiser-GB hybrids, bomber-fighter hybrids.
I probably sound like I'm spewing garbage, but it's what I have in my mind.
Bounty hunters aren't meant to be flying makos, the government of the house would feel threatened and thus you'd be poped up, it's not that hard. See what happens to random zoners in juggies flying around in Bretonia for example.
And does the BHG have an inferior shipline? ROFL it does not.

No idea what ships you've been flying then. I can only assume you've been trying to fight Titans in a Barracuda, or maybe gunboats in a Piranha. The BHG currently has probably one of the best shiplines overall.
Sea Serpent - Too big for a LF, but in a group still tears things apart.
Hammerhead - Perfectly effective HF. There's better HFs and worse ones too.
Manta - One of the better VHFs in the game. Even I can kill things in it sometimes, and I'm hateful in a VHF.
BHG Bomber - Definately one of the best bombers in the game. 5 turrets forward, small profile, medium core. It's weakness is it's side profile, but that's okay because it needs a weakness.
Bottlenose - Nothing needs to be said
Orca - Distinctly average medium GB.
Then there's the caps. Can't really comment on them as I'm not a cap flyer myself, but going on the comments of Core pilots :
Thresher - Small, very agile cruiser.
Bullhead - Massive firepower, thruster, but don't get too close to your enemy because it steers like a cow.
Mako - Agile, light battleship. Very competitive against the Osiris, it's primary enemy. Will lose to a Marduk 1v1, but then it's a light BS. What do you expect.
Then there's the guns you can mount on your fighter.
Reavers (8.33) - Slightly down on the DPS compared to most other 8.33s, but sync perfectly with Buckshots and Debs.
Buckshots (4.00) - There's a reason every lawful and their mother wanted to mount these when .86 came out.
You may have access to stat stuff to back up that the ships are not good, but my experience over the last few years of flying them is as above.
Stoat has summed-up BHG line of ships and weapons perfectly...
I tried Tresher, bomber, and I still use Manta....all three are above average ships and excel in both 1v1 or group engagments.
Buckshots are the one of the best 4.00 guns out there, maybe even then the best..same goes for Reavers, and they sync perfectly with debs.
I must say,BHG has one of the complete and well balanced shipe lines of all factions...
If they need something heavier..well there is always Liberty Dred and some of the other ships that they can get through RP..
The dudes BHG fight have Stortas, Ranseurs, Sarissas, Legates, Praefects, Jorms, Vidars, Hels, Scyllas, Osirises and Togos.
It is true that BHG (note the lack of CORE) have a poorer lineup than those they fight; how to alleviate that without bringing back the old times of BHG cruisers roaming house territory, I don't know. But it's true that their lineup is severely lacking compared to their foes.
There's no need for this thread .. srsly
the BHG ships ( not CORE ) are very strong and can kill anything with skills and team-work
it's just that you are not using it right..
lol pls, the once popular "u not doing it right" thing has thankfully been put to the grave long ago.
sure, bombers pwn everything in this mod and a couple of freelancer ID'd rocs can kill any cap around. that's not the point.
the point is that bhg does have a less complete lineup than its adversaries, and for diversity's sake (keeping in mind the justification for other factions' (Hessians) development) perhaps it was an idea to let BHG field similar classes of ships as their main opponents.

Or if you fancy trying to down battleships for a bounty, you could bring a group rather than expecting to do it all by yourself...
