Oh, this thread again. Yes, I'm talking about the right kind - most "Discovery is dying" threads were accompanied one of these and Joe's mandatory mention of a thread in 2007. Some things never change
I'm positively suprised about the thread's content (regarding the misleading title).
I guess, that most people are worried about the 'remaining life time' of this community, and thus think that talking about the problems which have never changed and never will, might help to keep the motivation of other players up.
Though, this wouldn't be fun for me - therefore I don't think or talk much about those doubts and enjoy it while it lasts.
I hate to mention it - but in case this community will fade away - I wouldn't be too sad because there's always something new to find. And I can imagine, that some day we could even 'switch' to another space simulation game (like Star Citizen). However, games like these will never die.
Also, Freelancer often reminds me of Diablo II, of course not the game itself, but the community it had/has. Both very old games, and still played a lot. And eventually one day we'll have a replacement which might be on a par with Freelancer.

It's up to the people who actually care for community to give them a little push in the right direction. Instead of disliking someone for not being a good Roleplayer, or not RPing in a way that suits you, talk to them. See if you can help them get used to the idea of roleplay. Storytelling is one of the oldest things in human culture for a reason. In roleplay, we're all different people. Don't judge someone by their character, and then dislike them OOCly because you think that's how they are. There's a good chance they're just playing the role they always had in mind for that character.
Wow!
This thing has touched me.
Maybe because I am the one of those "Newer people"... and... if all veterans wich are still here would do that, Discovery will not die!
I made a thread like this back in 2009....nice to know that I was wrong

I've been tracking activity levels since those numbers went up, and made a nice graph showing total activity hours. It's definitely going downwards. Note that the numbers for april are an estimate because the faction activity doesn't show the total hours anymore. All the other figures are correct.
January (2012) was an absolute peak because of 86, the 2nd peak after that was caused by the POB introduction.

"Discovery Rebirth Revolution"? Count me in!
Lets show those CoD-kids what actual roleplay is.
Listen to me, my brothers and sisters. What is it you regeret most, miss most, what is it you want most? Something that was taken from you? No need to tell, as we all know what you are thinking about. Thing, that was taken from you when you were not looking. But now its time for you to retrive what you deserve, what all of us deserve. Now its time for us to act.
We shall reclaim what we created and cherished, what was slowly stolen and poisoned, what we abandoned and barked at from the shadows. We turned away from what we created, but no more. Time, when we were ignored and dared to do nothing is over, no more shall we run away. As this place is ours, has always been ours, and its our duty to protect it. For we are Creators, creators of light in the world of darkness, and we shall not be defeated by the worshipers of darkness. We shall stand our ground, fight to the last and see this war to an end. End, where hundreds shining spears pierce our enemies and drive them back to depths from which they came. End, where light shall shine once again upon Discovery.
And so I command you, my brothers and sisters, come out from the shadows and fight with might and honor, show no mercy as they hasn't shown you, bring defeat to our - no, your enemy, the one who has taken what was not ours but yours. Long live Revolution, long live Discovery!
P.S. What the hell did i just write? And what the hell is Assassins Creed reference doing there? I should really stop studying math, it leads to unexpected results...
Now, where was my freelancer disc and my holy spear?
P.S.2 If you are still wondering what i wanted to say with this post look at my signature.

I feel sad for almost giving up on Disco.... have been thinking about it for the past month and was hoping for a reason or a sign to tell me if its worth losing all the character ideas and such that I have put hard effort into simply due to players in the community that were only here to do harm. This thread has givin me that sign, so now I set my pledge.....
A pistol in one hand, the throttle in another, my scanners at the ready and my engines at full, I will never waiver, never fall, shall keep to the course and find my home amongst the stars once again. My heart is strong, my cannons stronger, the cargo neatly stacked and my haul much longer. I shall let no man stand in the path set before me, and will forever sail in the black waters. I am a Trader, a pirate, a smuggler, the hand of justice. I am forever a Lancer, free to roam.
I dare any of you to declare this oath so as to keep true to your course and let no man stand in the way of our fun.
