Today night a 'friend' of mine posted a video about a game named Face of Mankind. It's a bit older game which is currently under 'reconstruction' by trying a kickstarter-pledge campaign. Now, I've watched that video and am somewhat impressed by the dynamics and the opportunities of it. It's an MMO where you can choose between different factions to join and plays in 1st and 3rd person perspective. PvP is possible too, yet it's less encouraged than actual roleplay.
It seems like a good game to me, so anybody liking such stuff might wanna support it if possible. I myself look forward to do so. But yeah, watch yourself. 8)
I beta tested for that game way back. Had some fun, but not enough to warrant buying the game when it was released.
I recall one scenario, I was playing a cop, walking my beat (other players higher ranking assigned me the patrol), and got jumped by some thugs (also players). Roleplay consisted of "Get the pig!", and I found myself booking it through narrow alleys trying to call for backup. Ended up hiding between two trash cans. A few of the thugs ran by, but one just happened to glance in my direction. Next thing I knew, I was respawning. My superiors ignored my request for clarification on why I did not receive any backup.
Game had potential but the Admins try and strong arm the players when things don't go their way. They don't get the point that a player ran company means they can fail too. They try and prevent a faction failing when they should and when they step in and take over the faction fails anyway. Perhaps if the kids who ran the game got replaced with some level headed staff that could keep their hands out of the politics meant for the players then I might give it a third look. It's already been scrapped and redone once this is it's third attempt that I know of.

I've played Face of Mankind quite a bit as it was a role-playing community. The thing is, I was a new player, and the veterans of the game are extremely xenophobic, not to mention in a game where everyone knows everyone it's hard to get to places without actually attempting to be buddy-buddy with the guys in charge... which, yet again, was hard to do.
The combat system isn't that great, the crafting is... moderate and it has a neat player driven economy, but the community... it's hard to get into. Especially when once you're done taking the classes certain factions require their members to take, you're pretty much on your own and ignored.
Well. The game is undergoing changes, hence the kickstarter. Might get as well some new stuff in terms of the community play which could make those things, you guys described here, better. It seems like a game with a lot of potential to me. And oh my god...if it reaches the pledge goal...
