I got slightly bored of Disco, but I have recently seen a mod which might interest me, Freelancer Genesis. It has a newer, less messy, less tense, often relaxing community, in which I'd like to sometimes play. I'd like to install it, but I'd also like to keep my Disco installation playable, because I'll be back occasionally, and ultimately when I restore my interest towards Disco, when I get bored of Genesis's simplicity.
So, is there any way to have two separate working mods installed at the same time, on the same computer?
I thought you meant on the same server for a second and was like "Eh"
Anyway, I have Crossfire and Disco on my computer, both work in unison with no conflicts. Just be careful with re-installs because if it errors out on a file, it'll take files from another mod (because they're more or less the same) and that can mess it up. (I did it once, had an integrity check failure and it decided that my Disco should have a Crossfire HUD and weapon effects)
Thanks, but I need something safer, since I'm not gonna re-install everything, like I had to do after the first try, which was quite close to what you have told me.
Well if you're not gonna end up re-installing (the second time I did it there was no problem by the way) then 2 should work just fine. I'm no expert though.
Installer creates a copy of Freelancer for Discovery (by default in %appdata%), leaving original installation intact (i.e. C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer). You can install whatever you want into original Freelancer installation after installing Discovery.
What I've found to work is creating a new user profile on your (Windows) computer, then installing vanilla there and modding as necessary. Your main Disco install should be left untouched, and I used it as a lazy/easy/safe way to play vanilla without having to mess around with anything.
When I installed FL, I've chosen to install for all users. Are those all current users, or all which will ever be on this computer? And do I have to install FL separately on the other user, or the already existing installation, shared with the other profiles, would be modded on that user, but left untouched on other?
I suppose that would depend on if it is installed in some shared location or not. Even then, if you create a new user (which isn't going to break anything to test anyway) and install FL directly into My Documents there, you should be able to install mods and the like there.
