Lib dread's nice until you have any sort of ship with a CD on its ass disrupting it. Then your heavy BS rolls in and melts it like butter in a microwave.

Find it out. Go to conn, take two different battleships, deactivate your shields and just shoot with the same weapons class. First with primaries, than with secondaries, and at least, with all.
For BS "power" you must consider the three primary BS battle tactics,
Brawling (pure battle of firepower and armor), kiting (outmaneuvering while firing from a distance) and the "new" tactic, stealth killing (using cloaks to get up close and wipe out the opponent)
for Brawling, the Legate wins hands down. No other battleship can hope to match it in a close quarter slugfest. The KU BS and Ranseur is also good contendants
for kiting, the Lib Dread, Dunkirk, Elbe and Mako is strong contenders. Osiris can still kite, but to a much more limited extent then previously.
for stealth, LIb Carrier, RM BS and KU BS is the best choices, due to overwhelming toughness, firepower and cargo-capacity,
The battleships with the least advantages in any of these forms of combat is; Sarissa, Redemption, Togo (not too great arcs, paper hull), Jormundgand (In tight packed spaces like roid fields/small narrow parts of open space it is a gem, outside these places, it is cannonfodder), Jinkushu, Aquilon, Kronos.
THE most useless BS's around are Valor and Marduk. The two of them has massive weakspots, larger then most things in the mod, less maneuverable then the famous brick steering a brick.
For non-cap-v-cap battles, it is somewhat different.
The best anti snub ships would be;
Lib Dread
Osiris (believe it or not)
Jormundgand (compact size)
Sarissa/Ranseur (arcs combined with lots of guns)
Togo (speed and size)
Mako (shape and arcs)
Redemption (Splendid razor and flak coverage, good placement of secondaries)
Disclaimer:
For those of you doubting my reasoning; i've flown most of these within the last 2 years. Some from other servers, such as disco of disco, some on the 24/7 GC server. All these ships -can- be good at these roles, however it all boils down to pilot skill. If your aim is terrible, and you do not fully know how to TS and use weapon's groups, you have no chances of even come close to realizing these ships potential.

Agree, but on head on clash the nephilim beats legate.

If it's a situation with CDs, than the only way to get close to LibDread is
1) Have a scout to locate it.
2) uncloak behind it.
And if LiDread pilot is smart, he'll be doing the same - having a scout searching for that heavy BS of yours, or disrupting your scout.

Which leaves us with 2 tactics, since what you described as stealth killing is absolutely same as brawling or kiting. It just depends on which distance you'll uncloak.
Since well, you won't be uncloaking at point blank against RMBS when flying some light BS, right?

Huh?
P.S. Calling Valor one of the most useless BS'es around =\
Granted, it got horrible light slot accuracy, low number of light turrets for it's size and huge weak spots, but it's rather excellent at fighting against kiters.
