Ok so we got 4 caucasion houses, 2 hispanic houses, 1 asian house.
Rheinland=Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Netherlands
Liberty=US, Canada, Mexico, South America
Bretonia=UK, Ireland, Australians, British colonies
Kusari=Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Philippines, possibly Vietnam
Gallia=France
Outcast=Italian
Corsairs=Spanish Nomad Worlds - Aliens
We also got smaller groups like SCRA: Russian, Chinese, Arab Nations with defectors from most of the other houses filling it's ranks. Primarily Russian-Culture. Wilde: Infested humans/hybrids
AI: AI
Just curious what other real life proxys we got here. We got anything for the middle east? Closest thing i can think of for them is GMG in the sense they got all the fuel. except its rheinland that invaded for the gas and not liberty.
The Hispanic Sleeper Ship confuses me - I get the idea that it's European/Mediterranean in origin, but what about the far more populated Latin America then? Were they all part of the Coalition?
That's basically what they're inspired by.....but it'd be best for everyone if we just forget about any sort of nationalist connections.
This is A THOUSAND YEARS in the future from the present day. We don't need any ties to present-day nations, unless absolutely essential. Which is only the case in the case of the history of the houses.
The Freelancer universe is so heavily based on familiar contemporary national/cultural stereotypes that it makes sense to ask these questions, even though the answers probably aren't there.
It would be interesting to know who the Coalition were comprised of, who didn't get on sleeper ships and who were subjugated (e.g.were latin american folks on the Liberty sleeper ship and did Libertonian culture (with very distinct US origin) swallow up Latin American culture?). Did the rest of East Asia (minus Coalition China) get on the Kusari boat, can I roleplay as a space Vietnamese Kusarian instead of a space Japanese one? Etc.
Vanilla lore is actually filled with national and racial stereotypes, and Discovery lore and gameplay has intentionally or unintentionally added to that, however, some people tend to overdo that. The real-life stereotypes implemented into FL role kinda spices up the whole thing, but when people decide to make things too close to a historical point of one of those nations, things just go straight downhill.
People seem to forget that these stereotypes are just meant for that - To spice things up, and not to base a whole faction off. Factions directly based off RL background of a nation usually tend to last shorter than others, especially in certain obvious cases which admins have decided to step in and shut it down before it goes too far, and I personally can't blame them, but some people unjustly do.
To add to the original post though, Outcasts in Disco are more or less RPed based on Italian stereotypes while Corsairs are based on Spanish ones, and one would assume that Latin Americans were part of the Liberty sleeper ship, which would justify the legitimate portion of "hispanic" population in Liberty. Furthermore, in the original Starlancer storyline middle east and Egypt were part of the Coalition, so one can assume some of them were within the Coalition saboteur force aboard the Hispania and currently part of the SCRA.

This makes me wonder where the Turks fall into. since there considerd part of europe. Its concievable that they could have potentially had there own sleeper ship (maybe one of the ones destroyed before launch) or they coulda jumped on one of the other ships.
although now that i think about it i guess scra would be the closest example of middle east. all other coalition where killed by nomads. and while id like to see a turkish faction. kinda hard to rp that. unless we can find 1 system or group of systems that most trade vessels pass through.
I was under the impression that the vast majority of people were left behind and killed. Is it possible that some nations just missed the boat, so to speak?
There were seven ships IIRC. Even if they could hold a few million people each, that still leaves billions of people who would have been left behind.
It's conceivable that entire nations were left behind in that case.

What seven ships? Liberty, Rheinland, Kusari, Bretonia, Hispania and Gallia.
The whole Outcasts are Italians thing is wrong. On-board the Hispania there were simply also Italians since the Italia was destroyed on the ground (or had troubles launching, can't remember), so Italian citizens were moved to it. Simply the vast majority of them decided to not drop at Crete and made all of the way down to Malta. The Outcast society is a mixture between Spanish and Italian residents, that's all.
