She had nothing to do at the USI HQ and sure they had social areas but socializing was not going very well if at all for her.
"Could you pass me the sauce." No response. "Please?" She wondered if she looked invisible. She noticed that the amount of words directed at her where only the minimum required, of course there where a few exceptions, just a few though.
Like the Lambda Wing who almost tricked her into... Doing something she is ashamed to remember. It was a good joke now that she looked back at it but since their first encounter they apparently decided she would be a thing to point at and laugh.
And all the female operators from dispatch who where very bad at hiding the venom in their voices when speaking to her. The guys where all right, they always did their best for her.
Since her ship had suffered a software malfunction that almost cost her her life recently, the technicians where busy installing everything from scratch which would take a few days, apparently the Raven's Talon was unflyable if not for the flight assistance.
It was 16:00, an hour early but sitting in her ship watching files being copied one by one was much better than sitting in the mess hall. The other option was to sit alone in her room and listen to tasteless libertonian music or even worse... television.
I was on my way back from a weapons test when one of my aids ran up to me. "Chief! Head of supply is looking for you." I stopped and looked at my watch it was 16:58. "You can tell him that i have some where else to be and that he can talk to me tomorrow." With that i started back for the docking bay. "But chief..." I cut him off, i was not going to be late, i had learned my lesson about getting on her bad side all ready. "I said tomorrow."
I made my way to the bay ignoring further protest from my aid. As i entered the docking bay there where a group of guys standing around and appeared to be sharing a joke or some thing. After 20 years being a navy pilot i knew what a group of guys standing around talking about some one, likely a girl, looked like. Especially if there happened to be one standing on the other side of the bay.
I walked up behind them aiming to catch what they where saying, i kinda wish i hadn't. One of the fly boys was all ready running off at the mouth, "...the only reason she is even here is because shes sleeping with the chief." Another piped in, "Not what i a hear, i hear shes got him whipped and warped around her finger and dose not even put out."
I had heard more then enough, i cleared my throat loudly. Standing the at full height with my hands behind my back doing my best to look as dangerous as i could. The look of terror that washed over there face was priceless and if i hadn't been so pissed i might have enjoyed it. "....CHIEF! Sir, eh we where....." Growling i cut them off, "O KNOW what you where doing, you where just telling me how you wanted to volunteer to scrub the deck for the next 2 months." I moved to leave when i turned back around, "Also i would put my money on her to out fly any of you. Try getting to know her shes more of man then all of you put together."
With that i turned and made my way across the bay to the person waiting on me, giving her a small nod. "Are you ready to go?"
The Security Offer barely heard the Chiefs voice outside of her ship but she disregarded it, it sounded like he was getting into an argument but as it went on she realized that it was indeed the chief. By the time she wanted to pay attention it had passed.
A quick glance at the onboard clock told her it was about time so she climbed out of the cockpit and landed on the deck with a soft thud. Her joints protested with a little discomfort, she had not moved much in a long while and was suddenly leaping off of tall places.
Standing there and checking herself Dayayra saw Thomas come her way, she nodded back at him and turned to face the direction they where headed, his Raven. He climbed into the cockpit and opened the hatch for her, the cargo bay was empty so navigating to the front of the ship was not a problem.
"You're a life saver pardnar, I really don't wanna spend my days off cooped up in here." She sat behind the pilot seat with a groan. "I'm sure you get better stuff to do than flying me around but you're also off ain't ya?" Her hand patted the leathery seat. "Let's go do something." The excitement in her voice was evident. "Sounds good Boss?"
I was all ready firing up the engines when she slid in to the seat behind me, "Sound good Boss?" She was in a good mood it seemed, and kinda hyper. I chuckled a bit before i answered, "Got cabin fever eh?"
The raven glided out of the bay with no problems, coming about i made for the planet below. We hadn't gotten 1km from the base before the police rolled up and hailed me while scanning the cargo hold. The tone was that of some one board out of there mind, "You are clean. Have a good night."
I made for the docking ring after that. Once clear i landed in the persephone docks. Cost more but put us closer to where i suspected she was wanting to head, down town. Cutting the thrusters and powering down the ship i turned around to face my passenger. "Ready to go?"
"As ready as ever." CitlaTzin beamed him a toothy smile. "I've been on Manhattan before but always for business." She said making her way out of the ship, once outside the two met up and she started walking towards the nearest exit.
"Manhattan is the capitol of Liberty right? It's supposed to be a pretty important place with stuff to see and all..." The USI security personnel cleared the spaceport and where now standing on a platform high above ground level. "Funny thing is I haven't seen anything of it..." She walked towards the railing to take in the sight of the many vehicles flying between buildings. "We don't have places like this on Canaria." She stared off into the distance, her mind going down memory lane.
"Ack!" The freelancer yelped when the platform they where standing on shook and started to descent. A quick glance at the twenty or so perfectly calm passengers told her that it was normal. She felt embarrassed for a second but before Thomas could comment on that she thought of something to put him in the spotlight.
"You're more familiar with these parts." She smiled leaning on the railing and tilting her head. "Take me somewhere."
Stifling a chuckle at her small outburst at the platform moving, i took a moment to look out over the city as well. It had been awhile since i was last here, but it seemed mostly the same.
She gave me one of her patented smiles as she tilted her head. "Take me somewhere." I couldn't help but think it strange how its the little things that make you pay more attention then the big. I pulled my PDA out to check a few things, "I never spent much time here after i was about 10, so forgive me if i am not up on the latest and hippest places."
I put my PDA away after assuring i had the funds for this, i swear i don't even know why i check any more. Being a top level executive for one of the 3 biggest corporations in liberty meant i had more money to spend in a month then i was use to having in two years of pay, at least.
I looked down at the small girl in front of me who was still smiling like a kid going on a field trip. "That said this is the heart of the capital there isn't any thing you cant do. Its a little early for dinner, i suppose we could do some shopping if your up for that. We arnt far from New 5th Ave.Its your call i am just here to serve."
The murmur from the group standing behind me didn't go unnoticed. Apparently being a nicely dressed older gentleman, while escorting a lovely young lady was a hot topic. That or the talk of New 5th Ave, one of those places less then wealthy people can only window shop on, made there imaginations run wild with thoughts of what was going on between us.
Which between them and what the fly boys said earlier, did every one think there was some thing going on between us?
"Shoppin'?" She did as if she had just been insulted. "Shoppin'?" She repeated in a more mocking tone. "Why would I wanna do that for?" She owned what she thought to be enough clothes, six or seven change of clothes, she didn't need anything else.
Needless to say he would probably end up buying her stuff and she would be forced to throw him off this platform to make her debt to him 'disappear'.
"How bout?" She looked around for a second trying to think of something and failing. "Let's just look around... I've heard about a lot of stuff around about Earth and all. I'm sure we'll run into something."
The platform stopped halfway down at the same level as a catwalk that lead to what could only be described as an elevated sidewalk that went through and around buildings. The many passangers steppe off the lift and dispersed in all direction, Dayayra followed suit. She turned around to face Thomas as she backpedaled. "You coming or what?"
The freelancer turned around and slowed down her pace until the chief caught up to her. "So you was like ten years old when you last was here? It's kinda hard for me to imagine you... Not old." She laughed softly patting her boss on the back to lighten the insult.
I had never met a girl that didn't like to go shopping, much less seem insulated by it. The girls behind me found this amusing if not some what horrifying that some one would turn down a free shopping trip on the 5th. This made me laugh a little, she was different that was for sure.
We had just started down one of the elevated sidewalks when she decided to insult my age, "I didn't know 41 was that old." Before we could get any further my communicator went off, pulling it out and looking at my screen it had the head of supplies name flashing. That man dose not know how to take no for an answer, i hit the button to send to the mail box then quickly stuffed it back in my suit jacket pocket.
At this point on the walk way we were over looking Broadway, with all its lights and banners every where. I couldn't help but think that maybe there wouldn't be an thing here that would really interest her. I glanced over at her and my mind tried to spit out an idea, but to it was no use, all my "good" ideas would never fly with her.
She gave me a funny look, apparently i had been staring out over the city to long and she was getting antsy. Turning i motioned with my hand, "By your lead."
We where soon on street level, and walked past some of the shops, one caught my eye, it was a dress store no less, what caught my eye was one of the display pieces. It was a dark purple sundress that went down to the knees, with thin straps over the shoulder that came together at the center. It looked to be made of light cotton.
Next to it was some thing even better also a dark purple, Egyptian style with real stones lining the shoulder strap. It was also made of cotton, and was very form fitting. My mind conjured an image of Dayayra in such a thing, it would fit her well, but the thought of her in one was kinda funny given how she was.
