You cant really compare the two. they both have different skills. Trent is a skilled space pilot. Shepard is skilled at ground combat.

All Trent had to do was shoot that nomad laser thing. Shepard had to fight a crap load of Reaper forces and had to give his life to save the galaxy and had a very hard choice to make. what choice to trent have to make? shoot the artifact laser? Shepard needed to make a choice in which he died in order to save the galaxy. also the reapers dont want just kill the humans like the nomads. they want to harvest them and their tech into making more reapers. The nomads plainly hate the humans and want them gone.

Again all the races in the galaxy in mass effect couldnt take down the reapers. and the races had been able to fly in space for thousands of years. The reapers had millions upon millions of years to make reapers. and that it took multiple fleets to take down just 1 reaper proves that all the fleets in freelancer would be torn to shreds. Remember its incredibly hard to just take down 1 reaper. imagine whole friggin fleets of them. also the reapers dont need to make physical contact to control a humans. Repear Indoctrination works much more efficiently then the nomad infection.
Should a reaper subvert a well placed political or military leader the resulting chaos could bring down nations(the houses of sirus)
