Keep in mind that i made this thread a year ago, things have changed since then. These are also personal opinions, subject to debate and improvement.
I know the history of the mod and have much respect and consideration for all who developed and maintain it. It is unique and because of that i have returned/ started to play again. No space sim that i have tried gave me the same satisfaction as this and i like the people here.
But:
This game has room for improvement and in my opinion needs it.
There is no shame in trying to be more like Eve, Eve online is after all debate a great game, hugely successful and with a fantastic comunity.
I will offer all the help i can, even if that only means suggestions, bad ones, good ones, something has to come out of it.
I still believe ingame factions should be owend and controlled by the respective player guilds. Players should pay a monthly/weekly membership fee and leaders should have degrees of controll over their faction. If it can be done, then it should be.
Thank you for reading and participation to this discussion.
Thank you.
Indeed these are personal opinions and I even agree without in some points.
Hopefully I could provide some different or additional points of view.
Anyone is welcome to discuss and provide some new thoughts
I 100% agree with you, but unfortunately it seems it is not what the majority of FL community wants. You can play with players that share your vision but, unless you are completely independent of the rest of the community (which is almost impossible), soon or later you will be confronted to unpleasant situations.
cheers!

What i don't like about Discovery:
1. This universe you have created is filled with rich people, everyone has a capital ship, destroyers, cruisers, big effin' battleships. Besides the fact that they are so easy to buy (that's outrageous) they only have to buy the capital and that's it, no more money to pay for it. My friends, a capital ship in my opinion needs maintenance, upkeep, crew payments, it should not be that easy to own one.
2. Indie players. What in the world? If you have the Id of an Outcast, you should be in the outcast player faction period. If you don't want to in the faction, then be a freelancer, that's the name of the game you know.
3. If i buy the GRN id, i should get the GRN iff, because you know i should be in the faction (see 2.)
4. When you die, you instantly revive, that not cool.
I also thought of some solutions for these problems:
1. When you buy a capital ship you will have to pay an amount of money per week for upkeep. That way, not everyone can afford a battleship.
2. When you buy an Id you will have to pay that faction a memership fee, because you know, they let you use their ships and weapons. Same thing: once a week an amount will be substracted from your account. The money can be used by the faction leaders to upkeep the faction battleships, reward members, post bounties, and whatever comes to their mind.
3. Autorep, just like droprep works.
4. At least half an hour when you can't login into your character, this way you can avoid the breaking of the 4 hour rule (it's too much time and if people can break it, they will) and give a little sense to dieing.
Man..if you rich..and dont know what to do with your monez...Please take a week off.
i mean Suggesting loosing something on each death ....you know it comes from a Rich mind (ofc with monez around it)
I would say force Directx10-11 rendering and adjust the game engine ( though there are some legal stuff to discuss here ) - people like eve mostly because of its graphics and obviously because the mechanics.
Freelancer owns eve in terms of how "easy" it is to play it, but eve owns freelancer in its complexity, its wide range of options and enhacements and not least the graphics. Add to that, if you wish to turn freelancer into a "Eve" like - game, I would also increase the server-player limit and start advertising this mod ( again tech stuff involved ).
