I just got the "missile incoming" message and then i used some countermeasures.
I think i died from guns or turrets...
In discovery there are many guns what can easily destroy smaller vessels like freighters, fighters or bombers.
You might have met a gunboat according to that incomming missile message.
I suggest you always move and never stay still, you will lower the change of getting killed that way.
Discovery Launchpad is a program that allows a player to utilize multiple accounts to bypass Freelancer's limitation of 5 characters per account, but seeing as you grabbed the program I'm going to guess you knew this.
You need to scan for your account right as you start using it. That will allow you to add your original account to the list of choosable accounts. From there you can create more.
As it has been a long time since I've not used an account manager, I am not sure if you can get your account back. Try scanning for the account or searching for your freelancer MPID found in your freelancer EXE folder of the install. I never knew what that thing actually did, but it might help.
The Launchpad program allows you to save and later on recover an account. In your case, if you already lost an account before getting the Launchpad, then it's not possible to use it to get back your account.
Still - in order to recover your characters, post here with the appropriate data: http://discoverygc.com/forums/showthread.php?tid=97064
You'll most likely get your characters returned to you in a few days (a week tops, not sure).
