I'd play it Blue, then Silver.
Of if you can't stand the graphics, leaf green/fire red on the gba.
This...
Plus the trading card game for GBC
The problem with only playing Gen 1 and Gen2 is that you're missing out on 2/3 of the entire series. Sure, you can only stick to the 90s games for "muh nostalgia", but for the full Pokemon experience, you should play at least one game from every generation
My reasoning is that after 2nd gen, the pokemon become.. unnatural. In the first two gens, they are semi realistic. They look like they're animals.. rather than just.. beasts. A Squirtle is clearly a turtle, but what the hell is a Groudon?
Ye .. I fell in love <3 with Pokemon blue .. try that out for sure man. That was a very enjoyable experience! Also, being the first pokemon game ever, Blue is also the logical choice if you wanna climb up generations

I tried my best, but I could never stop hating Gen 3 Solrock? A frikkin hippy stone? My BRID pokemon turns into a FRIKKIN KARATE CHICKEN? POKEMON CONTESTS?!!!??? Ughhhhhhhhhh. Crystal is baws.
Though I have tried Platinum, and I must say it seems pretty good so far, but my Nintendo DS emulator is SOOOO SLOOOOWWWW. And Duel screen is just retarded.
If you want roms/emulators check out coolrom.com, theres lots of fan made mod games too, such as games that let you catch all the pokes on one game.

What's a Grimer supposed to be? Ditto? Mewtwo? Mew?
Wow the "grimer" argument, the oldest and lamest on the internet. Clearly its meant to be a slug-like slime pokemon. Tell me do you truly think Trubbish is a decent pokemon or are just feeling defensive from all the criticism the later pokemon get for being inferior?
Ditto is an offshoot of a cloning experiment, Mew is supposed to be a "mythical ancestor" and if you dont know about Mewtwo I dont even know why your posting here.
The point isnt wether they look like a real animal, its weather they look like an animal that could be reasonable. New pokemon like Trubbish are trash bags, they look man made, even when they're not meant to be, like porygon.
Granted not all old Pokemon are good, Jynx, mr Mime, but the percentage of crap is much higher in new gens, they look like digimon.
Oh and "Genwunner" when advocating gen 2? I assumed people who said "genwunner" spelt it that way as a joke, rather than because they were too stupid to know how to spell, now Im not so sure.

Well, emerald did not work on the emulator for some reason, so I am playing Fire Red right now. Have a lvl 19 charmelion and find myself using the ember attack and nothing else. Woo.
