I don't see gunboats too often, yet those aren't used as they should be. No, those are just unusued, when they should be, because of their usefulness in AF/B combat. I would have a proposal of re-making classes of caps, which would be:
Gunboats - anti-fighter/bomber combat only. Throw away any anti-capital weps.
Destroyers/Cruisers - something in the middle. It could stay how it is now.
Battleships - huge badasses with anti-capital weapon only. Throw away anti-figher/bomber capabilities.
Carriers - good-for-nothing except for support role. I believe this one should have special code for respawning NPC fighters of faction that this CV represent. Plus, throw away bigger anti-cap weps.
Battlecruisers - less-armored (i.e. weak as hell) but faster and just a bit stronger than cruisers. I would add the option of doing fast dodges onto right and left as an exceptional move for such capital vessel as BC is.
We should make the game more tactical, not only "who-gots-the-biggest-pew-wins".

There were multiple redundant entries for vanilla and npc ships that were removed for v4.87.
