In fact, its strafe speed seems to be reduced since 4.87.
4.86 strafe_force = 20 000
4.87 strafe_force = 17 500

Just about every snub has strafe_force = 20 000. Sabre has 21 000. You can check the game files if you want.

e.g. Cougar: 17500/150 ~ 116 m/s

Havoc: 20000/250 = 80 m/s

Eagle: 20000/150 ~ 133 m/s

Soo... Cougar still strafes faster?

That's incorrect. Mass has no relation to the strafe speed. It only determines strafe acceleration. Even cruisers have strafe_force = 20 000, yet they have much higher mass.
Do you really think Eagle strafes at 133m/s?

EDIT: There is an easy way to check strafe speed in-game:
1. Stand still.
2. Engine kill.
3. Strafe left.
4. Turn 90 degrees to the left.
5. Observe the speed.
For almost all ships it's ~32m/s. Sabre is around 34m/s. Cougar is less than 30m/s.

Acceleration is not measured in m/s.
Strafe speed matters. Otherwise there wouldn't have been that much complaints about Sabre OP'ness (in some previous versions).
Cougar still has less strafe speed than every single snub out there. It was done on purpose for 4.87.

No, it has less strafe force, which is not the only factor that affects strafe acceleration. As belarusich has already pointed out, mass stats matter too. Unfortunately, I'm too inept to find out where you get mass stats for each ship to compare.

As for the original topic. The cougar does strafe a little slower than last version, though it still seems too fast to me.
