It's interesting, for experiment at least. It will however require adjusting of a whole lot of other things, namely projectile velocities and such. Probably even revising whole balance, as some weapons with homing capability will become vastly more dangerous too. But potentially it may shorten fighter combat.
Ships are already hilariously slow: 200 m/s tops (720 km/h). Seriously, even WW2 propeller planes had that speed.
In my opinion, it's acceleration that is the problem. A fighter can change it's speed from -400 m/s to 200 m/s in less than a second (>60g ...). Even cruisers and battleships accelerate very quick.
Fast acceleration combined with lag results in ships jumping around (at least for me). I think increasing ship mass (therefore, inertia) across the board is more appropriate.

FYI, this is a game and the distance units is disproportional to real lif examples.

FYI, we are not talking about planet sizes and distances between solar objects here.
Reducing speed of everything would make the game even more of a boring slug-fest than it is already.

Good point. Perhaps the bulky BCs could keep some of their speed. They are easy to hit by every class, have no immunity against anything and are underpowered a lot as of now. Or as you suggested, decrease impulse on BS accordingly, even though I would like a buff for the BS class.

No, because changing only 1 variable makes sense, in order to test what effect it makes on gameplay. Fast guns combined with less thrusting speeds might be what makes fights shorter. Slowing down guns accordingly will just muddle things up again and lead to no change.

That may be necessary if they prove to be too good. But we are still fine tuning these parts anyway.
I love your idea, I would even come up with a complementary one as well.
What if the thruster consumption rates would be higher? Not having a Cheetah Thruster like device, that almost doesn't runs out would help shorten the overall average pvp engagements too (and be less of a balancing hassle)?
We can't be certain until tests are performed, but it's sure worth a try.
Ah i see you all love that idea. But i don't. Why we don't remove the thrusters. Eh? Then nobody will use caps and we can also remove those. Later we can close the server. Hurray!
