The Omega Borderworlds lost their "Wild" feeling? - Discuss

Falcons with Purple Goddesses. So scary. (Speaking of, there was absolutely no reason to remove Stephen's "op wild NPCs", making them only useful for bot farming now. Of course, those 3k NPC gunned Wraiths were heavy, but they prevented lolcaps to go to places where they shouldn't (O55, Drake)).



On topic; I blame the lack of unlawful players in the Omegas. Reasons? In the past, the unlawfuls/terrorists/nomads got favored by players because of their better tech/environmental advantage in unpopulated areas. (After all, we hadn't Keepers raiding NY with their op tech, but when you met them in the Omicrons, it was a massacre.)

Soon, more and more people realized, that the unlawful's advantage can be (ab-)used in house space, too. So they got nerfed. Because lawful (is supposed to be) > unlawful.

Besides the Omicrons, the Omegas were indeed the most dangerous place in sirius. Hessians, Corsairs, Wilde, SCRA, RoS and no lawfuls at all. Zoners were zoners. No sane lawful or trader dared to enter the Omegas at will. I never did.

When I started playing, Omicrons/Omegas were the hell for a lawful/neutral player. Those places were ruled by the last scum of sirius.

But how come that the Corsairs and Hessians almost died out? Because they're no more fun to play. Try it yourself.

As exciting the Omegas were in .85, they totally bore me today.

My suggestion; buff the bad boys - nerf their ZOI. And remove/nerv Terrorist Pirate ID already...

borderworlds should, as jack suggested, be the wild west where the outlaws are king. Not tame house space where house lawfuls go to free pew the few remaining unlawfuls

Even the most secure house systems like NY do have one of the most dangerous outlaw frontieers featured in Sirius - Badlands in this case. Border World is well: border. Direction of house expansion. Just kick the unlawfuls into motion to actually combat lawfuls over those assets.

You know what really hurt the Omegas and made them all safe and tame? Falster and Aland popped up, removing 2 of the most piratable spots in the mod.

For all your complaints about "jumphole blocking bases" Jack, Falster very effectively shuts down the O3/O7 gate for piracy usage.

And don't even get me started on Aland.

Personally I would enjoy having lawful outposts that Republican and Bowex can ship to in new "deep Omega" systems like O11. Lots of profit, but no lanes, and lots of chances to get caught.

It's general problem of discovery where lawful side is getting buffs over buffs and taking control over the space that it can't control by the logic of lore. It's happening mostly because our universe is an arcade one, mean you don't fly for another month or two to reach another house. This creates the feeling that the space is small while it's not. Thus people start to claim that it's totally okay to, for example, send a Rheinland BS into the completely pirate overrun system such as Omega 7 while said pirates are, in fact, over takes half of another system and are plaguing the New Berlin. Where is logic? Or the Rheinland can afford a loose of the battleship? And it's just a side thoughts. In fact the biggest problem is a gameplay one.

A log way the development team + some certain groups of players went to ruin the entire region of Bretonia and Omegas. I'll be calling names here, yes.

First off - the POB builders. Yes, I'm talking about you - IMG, Bowex, Mollies, Kruger, etc etc, Corsairs too in fact - all of you are a part of a problem so have my congratulations. it's an irony that it's you to complain about the destroyed gameplay while it's you who was actively destroying it. We have POBs in pirate spots, POBs in mining fields, POBs at jump holes and jump gates. I mean, what the actual fuck? The process of building POBs went completely out of Dev team control by their own will. It's the biggest and epicness royal fail of Dev team by all times. Only factions with a big number of active players and access to battleships are able to destroy at least some of POBs so what was the idea? To let the lawful factions to barricade every corner around the Sirius so their trader and miner alts can fly around w\o even seeing any reds on scanner? I guess so because that's how it is done. Maybe it's time to rename the server into "happy farmer freelancer 24\7".

Then the actual development of Omegas, Rheinland and Bretonia. The main things that grinds my gears are jump hole relocations and trading rebalancings. It was said that trading through lanes must be more faster and profitable then trading via dangerous, unguarded, swarmed by pirates holes. I meat wat you wat my wat? Who's genius idea was that? Holes are a lane alternative that is dangerous but faster. Now it's just dangerous and also a longer way. Then the trading rebalance. Namely the completely dead traffic through the Omegas or Bretonia. Mostly it's just occasional trader or two in a hour of so. Pirate players won't be sitting in game jerking while waiting for a hour or two to see an actual player so no one even bothers. Pirate players are highly dependent on the availability of traders to hunt so if you don't see pirates maybe you need to check out the trading department for possible problems? There is a lot of cash in game because trading is extremely easy. No pirates, strong transports, POBs everywhere, overbuffed mining, etc etc etc - this makes the process of making cash into the pure grind w\o any side gameplay features like interactions with unlawfuls, passing of dangerous zones, trading in the laneless borderlands or edge worlds. All you need is to simply go between houses by lanes and be 100% safe 99% of time.

Then is going the famous "area denial" concept that is sitting super deep inside of someone's brain. All those countless OP stationary NPC objects with OP guns. Sure shit no one from hostile list are coming to play if all the opposite side is just sitting in such "safe area". It was another royal fail and the thing that breaks my heart. All the none stop spotting NPC patrols that are a generally huge annoyance and lag. Server don't need all that shit - I'm 100% sure in that and always was. There should not be any structure or patrol that can effectively damage the players except for other players.

Yes, I'm throwing stones into Dev's garden again.

Good points.
Placement of Aland is nothing I can do anything about. It already was there when I started leading and I do not think it is more of a problem than any other base that is a short lane from a piracy hotspot (Freeport 1). It is - however - rather piracy friendly, if your repsheet is alright for a local pirate (Molly, Hessian... np).

Falster. Hm. That used to be a piracy spot. Indeed. It is also the place at which IMG storyline development and Omega expansion made sense. It is not a blocking base, but yes, it denies the piracy region (at least to every non-local pirates like Hessians/Mollys). Sadly, my plans to get rid of the long range defenses entirely had to be scrapped due to the base changes that will require even more drastic automated defenses.

You however gave me an idea.

Generally, having IMG and Zoners in a rather central position used to be a typical feature of the original Borderworlds. That feature of course developed. I never said that my faction was not part of that development that I would somehow like to change.
