FLHook isn't that badly optimized, and does have threading support.

Our issue we currently face is not plugins, or FLServer's singlethreadedness and inability to be multi-cored. Modern multi-core Intel processors have the ability to dynamically disable extraneous cores to overclock one core when it's under heavy load, so a quad core hyperthreaded processor can indeed act as a single-core processor when the processor determines that is necessary.

Our issue is the host, which for some ungodly reason has amazing packet loss at the routers, causing incredible lag in-game.

I will have ask someone in charge to find a number prefixed with a Euro sign for you.

If Zelot says right,why don't we simply restore to the previous version? We had no PoB ,player bases and lots of new stuff added since mod .86, but we still enjoyed this game much back in .85

If the problem is money, players cannot offer any better idea... Some guys are really gonna donate some cash if it's the problem.

What makes Yanks so special you want to pay for it to be better for you? How about you just deal with it.

Wernt you the in DPC, and had those skype screens threatening to hold the server hostage?

But, on topic, I would be keen to have the server in NZ..... I mean, you've all suffered some of the lag us ANZlaggers have to deal with all the time, I'm sure you'll be fine to carry it on, right?

I don't know if changing a server/host/whatever will help or not though. But then again my knowledge of anything computer like is lacking. Most the time I yell at Alte because I think mines broken...... Then he tells me it was shut down, not put to sleep.

We could always get bear internet in the heart of Siberia. Then everyone will have the same bad connection. Except for the resident polar bears who play from there.

I think the server's in Europe, because the majority of the player base is near that area. That or previous admin bias, because the old admin crew used to be mostly European if I remember correctly. As for good pings to both US and EU - unless someone makes an island between the two continents, gets some really good optical cables to both places and makes the server there I don't see a place where both US and EU pings are nice. But hey, we can indeed put it in ANZland and have it equally bad for both of us.

Feel free to add cash to the pile. Our current host is some of the best "bang for the buck" possible, and there is always going to be some lag. Light is fast, but its not instantanious.

Many of us "yanks" would be happy to donate to make this server run better. I myself will donate a good bit IF I know my money will get used properly. The server we currently have is inadequate.

I think the server needs to be moved.

Put it in the US.

Why?

Most of our current player base seems to be from; Europe, United States, New Zealand, Australia ,Central America, and South America.

What country is between all these regions? The US

To the Kiwis and Aussies that means you are approximately 3000 miles closer to the server

To the South Americans you are 2000 miles closer to the server.

To the Europeans, Wont be so good for you. However due to the high quality of the connections between the US and Europe it shouldn't raise your ping significantly.

So, move the server. But words are only good for so much.

I will pledge 100 US starting 4-18-14 every 3 months if this server is moved.

Why?

Because Disco has become my favorite game and I don't want to see it die off because of a crappy server.




Also, I find the whole anti-US bias to be quite amusing. Consider this; Freelancer was designed by an American, Released by an American company, and Liberty is basically Space America and has most of the activity on this server.
