Pretty much this. Disco story comes from Vanilla Freelancer on most of parts. If we would rely on the video that shows Nomad blasting Sol then we need to pay attention to this 'young general Atticus Rockford' that was only one human that survived in sol and went to Sirius to warn the people about threat. But there is nothing known about him for sure. We saw him landing at Manhattan but then no further information about him appeared.
About this old-time RP of long gone veterans that Tabby mentioned - RP sometimes getting beyond of allowed and logical borders. Some members of this community was hungry it seems, and made that kind of RP of Discovery universe history, that definitly belongs only to Dev ''jurisdiction''. Over years on disco we saw that old RP often enough getting criticized by current players. They blame vets in making mistakes in their factions RP, and now current leaders have to deal with that mistakes with current level and understanding of how RP should be done.
(personal example is break of Order/Corsair/SCRA relations, which was mostly ooRP issue. Those time had very low RP level on current standarts.)
The Story with nomad blasting sol is not canon, enough said.
Chris Roberts AND Microsoft announced that the original story is without Nomads blasting sol. But Discovery used that Lore instead, it's ok not every mod has to follow it as example Crossfire follows the canon FL story where Sol ain't blasted. Disco follows what Chris Roberts planned first but then cancelled by Microsoft, so what? Gallia is here too 8| it's not for a reason a "Mod". If it would've been a complete new game, yeah then you could've cried about it.
Even if the Discovery writers do consider it canon, it's never referenced in any of the mod's content except in biographies about SCRA leaders that no one knows about anyway. For all intents and purposes, you could consider it not canon and it would have no effect on how you played in the servers. I personally don't consider the existence of Sol Nomads to be canon in Discovery and I probably never will until the SCRA goes public with its knowledge. I really hope it doesn't do this though. Even though the Nomad faction has tried to explain the existence of Sol Nomads, I find the explanations to be really inadequate, meaning that I'd consider the SCRA's admission of the events in Sol to be a validation of something that didn't and still doesn't make sense in the lore.
The whole eight sleeper ships thing I find much more believable though (there was some controversy years ago about whether or not this deserved to be included in the mod). First of all, it's actually referenced in the original game and its inclusion doesn't open any significant plot holes.
Carlos Rivera: Corsair Brotherhood Pirate - Retired, shifted to Tripoli Shipyard's Research and Development engineering teams Anthony Cameron: Guild Core Bounty Hunter - Killed in Action, committed suicide after being trapped in Omicron Minor following its destruction Juan Ruiz: Outcast Ghost of Razgriz Pirate - Killed in Action, killed by the Sirius Coalition Revolutionary Army during Bretonian piracy raid Michael Winchester: Liberty Security Force Agent - Missing in Action, likely killed during Rheinland espionage mission or trapped in Rheinland Space Eric McCormick: Order Pilot - Retired, shifted to planetside training of new recruits
8 sleeper ships ? as much as im aware of there are 5 main ones ( Original Factions ) galia that was added.
I did read an article somwhere where it said that the alliance had more sleepers planned but somthing happned with them.
I'm actually half tempted to post a Sanction report on that nomad ship for lolblasting Sol without any RP at all.
Indies in their caps, man.. just Jeez.

Go to Malta and keep listening to the rumors. You'll hear one about eight sleeper ships eventually. Now that I think about it, I think it was meant to be cut from the game since it's actually not factually correct. It says the sleeper ships took off from Pluto when they actually took off from Jupiter.
It's also referenced in an old developer's document. The link to it is in my signature.

Awso the lore written there pretty much eliminates the nomad destroying sol part of the story

That is correct. But this is exactly what is beginning of Gallia lore.
French sleeper ship went poof by coalition attack, and french asked Alliance for a new one. They said that they dont have time and resourses for it (or whatver else reason) so French felt betrayed. They somehow made secretly their own sleeper ship and went somewhere far away from Sirius. But around 750 AS they discovered the stable JH that leads to Sirius and remembered who betrayed them. This is why Gallia attacks Brets and Liberty nowadays.
And Italians went to Hispania sleeper ship, which werent full yet and had low defence too, because there was also some Coalition spies there. After Coalition sabotaged the Hispania engines, half of people went to Crete (I strongly believe they were Spainians, Greeks, Mexicans and others.) While Italians went to Malta. (I think OC is italians because of their current lifestyle really close to what Italian Gansgsters were)

Slightly incorrect. UK and US used France and Australia, and their sleeper ships as bait for the Coalition. While the commies were busy taking those out, the rest had enough time to finish preparations and just had enough time to take off.
Gallic lore starts with that the French knew this and their sleeper ship was apparently an empty hull, a decoy, while they built their own real sleeper ship away from the public eyes.

Italians went there because the Italia has been sabotaged. The Hispania was kinda full by then and because of Italians migrating there too it became overcrowded. That was one of the causes of the disaster, the other were the saboteurs.
