Solarus turrets - To Buy or not to Buy

back when we had 4.83, I could take down 2 gunboats in a VHF...

that's rediculous sort of.

IMO whether or not a VHF can win should depend solely on what types of guns it's using, and the guns the fighter has, not just the fact its a gunboat. if your using solaris, you'll do much better against fighters than with nomads, and heavier guns on a fighter will do good against the GBs. its obvious, i know, but i just wanted it said because i think it is a great basis to balance those particular ships on.

It amazes me how there are Capship owners complaining about not being able to take down Fighters, when you could use a couple Solaris Turrets and end the problem... The are medium strength, but fire fast, and pack a punch. Overall, a good deal.. I used to use them on my Gunship, because my current profession as a Freelancer is Wild massacre duty. Solaris Turrets turn a Capital Ship into a Fighters worst nightmare..

After some 9 months on discovery I bought my first GB... actually to test missiles.. so I will scrap it soon..

anyway hitting even a dodging fighter is rather easy.. (compared to hitting it in another fighter)

all the capship owners that can't hit them simply have crappy aim...

it goes like this:

Use a fighter... can't hit and get owned.... buy a GB... get owned.. buy a Cruiser.. uhh still getting owned.... buy a BS.. nice finally with 1700m/s guns they can hit something... well too bad bombers own you from 1k no sweat.

So get back to basics (best in a LF) and learn to aim.

My Orca gunboat currently has a Liberty Foward gun, I missile turret, and the rest Solaris turrets. The Zoner turrets work very well too, but in my opinion, I think this is the loadout that works best for me and I've tried multiple different loadouts. Adding the 1 missile turret gives it a small advantage (if your lucky enough to hit) against a slippery fighter.
