But then LPI will be hard pressed to get stuff done, LR will be unable to do their jobs, and SA/LSF will have a hell of a time stopping people from entering Zone 21. I say no, as that kills legit RP as opposed to helps it.
Locking PVP in New York only creates immunity for the campers, and is unfair to the Liberty factions who defend it. New Berlin, New Tokyo and New London are not no-PVP. If they were, the Rheinwehr, Kaigun, Queen Carina's Royal Fleet, Bretonia Police Authority and Rheinland Bundespolize would be impotent to stop smugglers and criminals in their area, and on the other side of the aisle, smuggling would lose most to all of the risk and turn into grinding.
Also, I think it is simply untenable to have SP in Discovery. You know why?
Look at the news reports. In 800 AS, just hours/days after Trent and some of the other folk have been rescued from Freeport 7, you can read news reports about the Bretonia-Kusari war, which happens 13 years after it. Heck, I even read reports, at the same time, of there being a risk of "the first war between the colonies" (paraphrased). You can read reports about Das Wilde while Rheinland is in the middle of their infestation!. You can read reports about the Nomads when the war hasn't even begun yet of President's who wouldn't be elected until a decade and Gottkanzler's two terms ahead spouting off to each other.
That's the equivalent of hearing talk about Hurricane Katrina in Desert Storm, or talk about the death of Stalin in Battlefield 1942, or people discussing the release date of Duke Nukem Forever in Desperados. It can work in a humorous fashion (Destroy All Humans! and it's sequel) but in a serious setting like Freelancer, it breaks immersion and seems to be impossible to fix in the SP campaign.
I think the best solution is to more tightly enforce our existing laws. Rule 3.4 needs a lot more attention, as it's violated routinely in New York and even some other systems without penalty. Not to play backseat admin, but, just offering up my opinion.
I think it would be just awesome if there were nothing keeping me from oorp vaping brand new players every time they launch from NY, over and over. Best way to pound into their heads that this is disco, its an elitist PVP server, and we do things differently here.
PvP lock was the norm for long time. PvP in NY is an oddity. However, locking solves the problems this thread was created about very easily
1. It stops the relentless camping & killing, and 2. provides for an area to initiate new members.
It doesn't create an area to initiate new people.
People treat it like a chatroom, and it really isn't possible to rp without the PVP...cannot be done. Its a shame that there is oorp for the fresh noobs, but pvplocking it does not fix that. It will probably make it worse...as I said, and the only thing I meant, This is disco, we do it different.
@Oso, the problem is not PvP in NY. The problem is a ton of players just sitting around like idiots, chatting, NPC farming, ignoring RP, and generally slapping the salami.
Putting the PvP lock back on won't solve anything. The only thing I can think of which will help involves a billy club.
yep. thats why I suggested Sigma 13, because there's about nothing that can really sit around doing nothing. GMG vs pirates, pirates vs lawful and traders, traders vs pirates, lawful vs pirates;
theres lot of unlawful to oppose the lawful. no one could sit around doing nothing. and its an often used route, its a popular pirating area.
