Hello. I hope this thread isn't already made in the past.
Discovery seems very promising and it's actually a lot of fun. I started playing today.
When i stumbled across Freelancer mods there were two mods that caught my attention: Crossfire and Discovery
After comparing and a lot of thinking i came to the conclusion that discovery has good rp elements while crossfire shines with it's graphics. i couldn't decide,so i started playing Crossfire just because it has the good old Ships from Starlancer.
especially these Ships are in my wishlist:
Fighters: Shroud, Phoenix, Coyote
Carriers (Battleships): ANS Yamato, CS Pukov and ANS Washington/Victorious
It would be really nice if Discovery has Ships from Starlancer too. are there any Starlancer players out there who wish it too? would be interesting to hear.
anyways i would appreciate it. i don't think it should be too much of a problem since these ships are lorefriendly. well, they are from the past but yeah...
EDIT: Oh snap i should have known there were threads about this already. oh well...
Well, something that Discovery really doesn't like adding in, is imports. Imports from other games especially. Now I realize that Starlancer is the precursor to Freelancer, however I have a gut feeling that they won't really make it into this mod either, no matter how interesting that may be.
It's a good thought, personally I really haven't taken too much of a look into the vessels offered by Starlancer. We sorta already have a large amount of choices already.
It isn't a shame when they would import something, as long as it fits into the game (lorefriendlyness). and i think starlancer ships are the best thing to import to freelancer.
but eh, that's my idea to this. maybe others will disagree.
Starlancer happened a long long long time before Freelancer. The technology and ship designs evolved. In the current mod version we don't even have ships that appear in Freelancer's trailer (that was more then 800 years in the past). So Starlancer ships don't fit in FL Disco, not lorewise, not model quality wise.
Besides, we have very talented modelers in our community that can create original and cool ships. No need to add something that already exists somewhere.

I never played Starlancer, but as far as I know the story, more than 800 years passed between the setting of the two games, so... it is lore friendly, but it actualy does not fit into the game, as quite much time passed and the technology/story evolved very much in the meantime.
Quite frankly, they all have a point. I don't see why it's neccisary to turn around and leave due to it.
Say on Earth right now, what would you do if someone turns up with three people carrying a crank machine-gun.
And then someone else walks out with a standard AK-47 which is a lot more mobile.
Why use outdated technology? Where Freelancer is not younger, but quite a bit 'older' than Starlancer in the first place.
It's a fun game out there. We have our own ships, just like every other game differs. Why not try to get involved with Discovery, rather than expecting change? It's honestly not too bad, and getting used to it is a synch since you've already been involved with Crossfire.
