Thats the point mate. Its meant to be a huge nerf so people don't go crazy with it when it's changed over to civi. If stats were even kept close to the same, it would cause headaches all around.
On topic, I definitely agree. Getting a dedicated research ship that won't cause problems with factions simply because of the ship type would be a great addition to RP.
Why not just make it a liner then, if the point is to make it useless? OP states the point is not to make it useless in a fight.
What 'craziness' are you thinking might happen? There are already tons of lawful and unlawful cruisers available for use in every house.
Maybe I'm not thinking clearly but I'm not seeing the reason for concern.
I understand that. However, if the idea is to make a sirius-wide research ship and we don't care about its firepower, it would be better to make it a small-cargo liner and be done with it.
Enough factions can use cruisers, and enough cruisers are available, that I don't see how one could 'go crazy' with a civ cruiser, especially one that is nerfed halfway to gunboat levels, as I described. What undesirable behavior could one get away with using a civ cruiser, that one could not do using some other unlawful faction's cruiser?

What if we did some type of RP event or have something in place to explain how this ship is now more open, instead of JUST changing it? If Zoners have had the Corvo for a long time, to all of a sudden change it with no RP/real reasoning, I think would remove some potential RP possibilities. Think of Zoners discussing with various entities to make the Corvo available. They share the plans, and then it becomes more open use. People get what they want AND we get some RP out of it.
Thoughts?
This actually is a pretty excellent idea and something that would make things a lot more sensible. It's somewhat immersion breaking when a long-used ship suddenly gets repurposed/renamed/reskinned or opened to more groups to use, with no real explanation other than "This is how it's been since forever", when that's not actually the case.
Finn's idea could turn out to be pretty cool, and also yeah, maintaining a Zoner version of the ship, with a slightly altered reskin being used as the "Sirius Wide" variant, would be a really good way to go about making the change.
I don't mind people using corvo, though I would mind if it were a zoner one - because even though it doesn't mention in any infocard, the zoner line is just as secret as any other faction shipline, in this case - even more.
You could try to replicate the corvo for a civilian class - it worked pretty well with kujira and the ZBT - But that's just me.
Zen/Tel, read my post. I suggested exactly that. Having some sort of RP to replicate the designs of the Corvo for use outside of the Zoners, but while still keeping the fully functional/original Corvo "Zoner".
@Sarawr - Thanks! Yeah, as an RP server, hard to see when something that has been established and been a part of a lot of people's RP to just suddenly change, with no sort of inRP explanation. Would be interesting to say the least!
Since the majority seem to be in favor of this change (with the few people against it who posted but didn't bother offering anything constructive and just went "No". Thanks for the input), here's a rough draft of a possible stats set:
Handling:Unchanged
Powercore:500,000
Hull:150,000
Regens:600
Cargo:1,100
Shield:Class 9
Turrets:5 Class 5 (5 forward, 3 backward, 3 sides)
Special Equipment Mounts:2
Discuss.
P.S: Duplicating the ship entry won't be happening. We'll either be going for this change, or keeping the Corvo as-is. As for the lore justification, that's not really in my area and the story/infocard devs would have to comment on that, but one idea already discussed regarding the roleplay behind the change is giving it the "Kingfisher treatment", as in - Designed by Zoners, built by Zoners and for a time primarily used by Zoners, but later thrown into open market after it's outlived its usefulness.
Say to me please...How fast do you wish kill mod? We must close permissions to all caps, only snubcrafts and gunboats with freighters, transports or liners. This is my opinion...Cause you kill mod...You kill this mod very fast - and when mod die - Freelancer do one big step to grove!

... You didn't even give it a heavy gunboat core. Like I suggested before, you might as well make it a liner at this rate. It's just a bluemsg pinata with these stats. And I don't even use this ship so I'm not particularly biased.
