Quote:suggestions regarding any possible alternative usage for the Barge, which would allow repurposing the ship (after making required adjustments) to fill an existing gameplay gap.
Superbattletransport, perhaps? Battleship agility, battleship size, 6-7k of cargospace, gunboat weaponry.
So those, who spend dozens of billions on their barge won't whine much, when their toys will be taken.
The use of Barges for jump trading has hugely reduced the ability of pirating traders. Part of the game play in this server is supposed to be the pirating of traders. However, over the past couple of years the number of active players and the level of pirating has greatly reduced. This can easily be attributed to Jump trading.
A suggestion to counteract this and increase game play would be to reduce the size of the barge to say 10,000 units and make it available to all players just like any 5,000 unit trader. This reduction in size would in turn make the barge more manoeuvrable, possibly at the level of a Battleship so that it would be easier to travel through asteroid fields.
Also do not allow the new designed barge to Jump Trade, thus allowing more player interaction in the game play through pirating.
The new designed barge should also not be allowed to dock on POB's to eliminate this vessel being used as additional storage units on a low level base e.g. Core 1 or Core 2 base. This new designed barge should be allowed to dock on all NPC bases to allow additional trade points between systems.
Having a barge of 10,000 units would also eliminate the need for Admins to continually change prices at Ore/Scrap selling points due to the large cargo size. But this is only a suggestion as the changing of prices at selling points does allow for more player interaction on different trade routes and systems.

This is sooooo not true. I used to jump a barge once or twice a week last year, mainly for basic alloys for a TAZ base. I was in contact with a lot of jumper players.
Now that I´ve returned I´m dying to jump once again, even on a transport or snub (it´s so much fun, really), and yet none of my jumper player contacts has delivered, because they rarely do so! It´s been a full month since I´ve returned, so figure it out yourself.
I dont believe removing barges will solve any game play issues related to the server. This would also deem current SRP's for barges useless, leaving months wasted on RP towards producing one.
My suggestion to improve the issues related to barges/barge jumping would be to hold the SRP standards for this particular ship to a higher degree than other ships (to the level of Persephone for instance). Also require that a sort of "RP checkup" would be made on the player(s) using said barge to verify they're able to role play with other characters in a professional manner (to somewhat alleviate the usage of these ships by troll players). The same strict RP guidelines could also be applied to the Jump Ships rather than eliminating barge jumping all together, regulate it in a way such that responsible players who RP to the utmost degree may still use these ships & processes, and the less serious players or trolls would not have authorization to use such ships/technology.
It just really boils down to this. I don't believe the issue is the ship or the process of jump trading, but the irresponsible actions of a few bad apples taken over the last few years.
Not sure if barge broke the game balance, but whatever. My suggestion is to keep "mothership" role, but give it stats of BS. Kind of Turanic Raiders carrier from Homeworld - battlecarrier. So barge would be replaced by something interesting for players and what would be beneficial for gameplay.
I'm of the opinion that tinkering and converting them into something like supercarriers with either quite a few DM slots or a few DM slots but can dock GBs and/or cruisers would give good purpose and excitement to barges.
