Some days ago my own Laptop power cable stopped working so I have to use my dad's laptop with Win8.1 now.
Because I lost the Freelancer CD, a friend send me the full Disco folder with the Freelancer files in it. But now when I start the program it says "I'm sorry, but the account name and password you provided are not valid on this server. Be sure that you typed your account name and password right and try it again"
I already tried to make new accounts with the Disco Launchpad and the Account manager 1.0 but it still does not work. Does somebody know a solution for it?
You can't just copy&paste a random discovery folder. It doesn't work that way, I believe.
Delete your Discovery folder, clean registry with CCleaner. Search in C:\User\YourUsername\Appdata\Local for some Freelancer/microsoft games or Discovery folders/files, delete them all.
Go to your documents folder, delete MyGames folder there too.
Get FLKeygen instead of launchpad, create a new clean account.
After this, try a clean reinstallation of Freelancer and then install the Discovery Freelancer Mod 4.87 on it. Activate the new account afterwards or import the one given by FL itself.
EDIT : Is the error only occuring on the official server? Or on others too? If it does happen on other servers too, follow my step-by-step tutorial, if not you should ask an admin about this.

No, it immediately pops up when i start the game just after the loading screen with the Conquest logo. Then I can do nothing but tab out and close the game from the desktop.
no, freelancer needs to be installed 1st, as the mod installation needs to get files from freelancer, it wont know where to get them, just copy pasting wont work
you will need to buy a new version, get a full cd off someone, or find "other" ways to get an image of the game

This is how I have installed since my FL disk broke.
if that was true, he would need to place his friends freelancer files/folder, in the exact folder/s for where the original would of been installed, normally
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Freelancer
or
C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Games\Freelancer (on a 64bit comp)
then hopefully when trying to install disco, it might see that and install
