These are just a few things that i have encountered in other space games that i think if they were included in Discovery they would improve it.
I'll start with the things from a game called X3 Reunion because it is most similar to Freelancer. But i really think it would be best for the ppl on the mod team to have a look at these games.
X3
: Functional carriers eg docking, undocking, transport etc
: ownership of multiple ships
: ownership of factory's and complexes, eg material production, mining and raw material obtaining, finished product production etc
: ownership of Space stations with all the functions that go with them eg ship modification, reverse engineering to obtain blue prints for different items etc
: an eject system in ships
: the ability to commandeer a ship that has been ejected out of.
EVE
: Functional carriers eg docking, undocking, transport etc (the carriers on EVE have been implemented very effectively and allow large groups of players to travel vast distances very fast.
: Cloaking of ships. (this is done very well in EVE but it also appeared in the Freelancer story line on NPC ships.
Thats all i can think of at the moment but i would recommend having a look at the two mentioned games.
for the carriers, it's been discussed oh-so many times before, use the search function and you'll dig up a great many posts about this.
It IS possible and has been done on other servers, but people question what happens if the mother-carrier dies, not only that, people think taking what makes other servers unique for our own might make some people unhappy

X3 and Freelancer I think have slightly different 'objectives' and style of play. X3 is more oriented towards empire building with the multitude of ships and factories and such you can mine. In a sense, having different ships with the same character could be a direction towards X3. Also, X3 isn't a multiplayer so I wouldn't be too happy if someone "commandeered" my ship although there are Roleplays that have been done that does incorporate such action.

keep up the good work guys and girls.:yahoo:
Cloaking has also been talked about before, and was shot down because of possible misuse and abuse of such feature if I remember correctly. Definately fine ideas to space games but the gameplay is oriented a little differently for some of these features to be put into place.
None of these are anything that hasn't been suggested before... none of them are things we really need either. Though, last I heard they were experimenting with carriers.
And I thought this was just and "ideas" thread and not a "go do it". We already know some have been implemente and also know that doing it would take 1 eternity and a half.
Anyways my idea is
*Ship customization: adding or taking out components that increase or decrease certain factors (like taking out high speed for better armor)
*Private Hangar or warehouse: a place to store any kind of items, from weapons to cargo, it would be very useful actually
*And of course planetary flight: Flying inside manhattan would be very cool. Smuggling would take a whole new direction for example.
And dont tell me this cant be done or this is not needed because I already know
I'd like to see some unused/abandoned bases. Old asteroid style bases so that rebel groups can find somewhere to base out of. I'd put them in the middle of nowhere, youd only need a robot docking person there. No bar/commodity/equipment people. Just somewhere for them to store their ships.
There would be more indy groups than bases but then they could fight over them and form fluid alliances to share and defend the bases, or fight each other for docking rights.

MMmm, me likey..
I think that might be cool. Unfortunately I don't think we can server-side change the faction of a base... Can we? That would be some bitchin' admin-only FLHook to do if someone captures a base.

yus, we can. In fact, we have done already.
Connecticut has red base, yellow base, etc.
instead of using the cube (sugarland prison type model), can use willard/ouray/nomad/tekagi's base model, or even the new model that the molly's have in cambs.

We could have 'abandoned shipyard' with a robot selling ship hull panels
Abandoned armaments factory, selling low level (class 6) guns
However, who would have access. Is this a 'official factions only' game, or do we want to encourage independants?
Just a thought... if you've sorted out your rep, and play within roleplay, then you can dock in a huge number of bases. Buying the junker bribe and not shooting too many npcs means you can dock pretty much anywhere...
