Doc gave a "hmph" and turned to his side a bit at the mention of love and his state getting worse.
"You seem to know more about me than you should, past and present," he commented, "my state gets worse. What? Do I turn into a monster or something if I don't find the next Mrs. Holliday?"
He took a couple of steps forward as he took a drink, "You know I loved Midori, Vaelin and some of me still does. It's my fault she left."
He then turned back to him, "I keep only one rule in love and that's patients don't become lovers.....yet on a couple of occasions I find myself wanting to violate that." He sighed in thought, "All she wanted was another child. Well, if my next love wants that then I won't make that same mistake twice."
He turned his attention back to Vaelin, "What about you? You're back and obviously have a plan. I do hope we'll see each other on occasion."
He then motioned around the home, "If you need a place to stay, it's quiet here. I might consider it for myself at least part time."
Vaelin would sigh looking at Doc. "If you have forgotten about your past and I know more then you then that means you've gone senile and forgotten what you've told me, I remember you telling me of your origin, as for your present, you are following what I would see a likely outcome, you'll look to drinks more, you'll come to regret and become stuck in the past, depressed further and further, what you turn into is a shade of yourself, I am not saying go out there and just pick someone, but move on from Midori, I know you mightn't want to but you need to.... one of my own quotes. 'What you want and what you need aren't always the same.' He gave a sigh. "Doreen knew, the way she looked at you, the way you were at the piano - As far as having a plan goes, I never much was good with those, general ideas, but I am more of a practical person then a planner, though that's not to say things aren't given consideration, - So anyway despite all that how about we do something that's forbidden amounts men, tell me how you feel, consider me a free unlicensed physiologist."

He just gave a jesting smile to Vaelin, "I only said that it SEEMS that you know more about me than I, I didn't say that you did and trust me when I say that I remember much of my past."
He put his now empty glass down on the end of his piano. "My drinking habits haven't changed much, really. I can put down a lot yes but I don't do it at work." He turned to Vaelin, waving a finger, "and planning isn't a wise option in medicine, especially in Sirius. One second, things are fine. The next second? You're patching up casualties from yet another fire fight."
He sort of stared at him now, at his request about psychiatry. He shook his head, "I'm not sure to be honest. I just know how I feel....sometimes."
Then, in a strange twist, he sat at his piano and began to play. Chopin Nocturne
Vaelin sat listening to the performance that his friend was giving, he remember Doc playing frequently at Texas, a sad smile formed on his lips for a moment, his fingers interlacing over his chest. “You mightn’t know how you feel consciously, but your music, I would believe would seek to express that quality, you’re drinking mightn’t be a problem, make sure it doesn’t come so, some people use alcohol to escape their minds but I am sure you know that apparently alcohol is classed as a depressant – Maybe you could give some thought or contemplation into how you feel, if you want to talk, consider me here to talk – I am sure you know how to gain my attention through the neural net – I do have one request though In all this, call me Vaelin from now on.”
He moved to the window once again looking over the state of the land with a thoughtful look, he was considering at least taking him up on the offer though he was unsure on smartness in being complacent, he might have wished to leave his past behind him but it wasn’t exactly something he could control if it decided to come knocking. “I intuitively felt the need to come back here, for selfish reasons or not, I have no inclination into the feeling of needing to come back, I am more of a tactician then a strategist.”

Doc chuckled a bit as he stood up and gave his piano a pat, "I love this old girl."
He then looked to Vaelin, "Well then, Vaelin it will be. I don't see an issue there. I will say this though, it is good to see you again and do know that if I'm needed, you need not look far."
He stood a moment quiet, feeling the air around him, "It's warmed up nicely in here. I suppose I could stay here a bit. After all, I do own it and I can't even give away an ice cube." He snickered at his own joke.
"And um," he continued, looking toward Vaelin, "if you find someone out there that would suit me, give a reference, eh?" He again gave a smirk.
Vaelin smiled at Doc as he moved to pat him on the shoulder. “Just know you might feel alone, but you’re not alone, Doreen, me from the shadows and I am sure Ben would be a great friend of yours, seems some of the locals around here have missed you as well – as for finding a match, I’ll do one better, ill kidnap them and you can play the dashing hero and sweep her up off her feet in a heroic display of your manliness, while you swiftly dispatch me and secure the fair maidens safety.” A soft chuckle on his lips. “Tell me about Doreen and how she’s doing as well as her son, I was unable to return the feelings she bestowed to me, I find that’s often the case – She’s doing better I hope.”

Doc let out a laugh when he mentioned kidnapping someone for him. With a friendly slap on the back, he just joked, "I'll keep that in mind" and continued laughing.
When he settled back down, he discussed Doreen. "She is well, Vaelin. When Canaria Medical closed, she did house calls to fill in the void and worked aboard Med Force One a bit. I referred her to Fynn McScrap for her position at Tinker's Haven and the Sirius Relief Organization. I've heard nothing but praise about her."
"Ben is in school on Houston as I understand. He's Mom's little man but she admits that even though he knows about his now dead father, he still asks questions." Doc shrugged, "I think she's doing a great job of things and for someone, she'll make a fine wife when she's up for it." After a short pause, Doc quickly added, "And no, I won't be him. I like the relationship we have."
He softly smiled to Vaelin, "You are wise to leave her be. I don't know how she would react if she knew who you were."
"My friend Doc, if you considered Doreen, I would consider you a man of questionable restraint, she needs someone who's less hampered in life - In all honesty, I doubt there is a person in this universe who truly knows who I am familiar or not - Its likely Doreen will act shocked at first, then angry, If I am there, I am sure she would take a turn to leave me with a burning cheek and maybe emotionally confused, my departure was rather sudden for all, but this is all based on the thought of who is more inclined to do things off emotional impulse."
"I am sure we will both prove enough of a deterrent to a prospective husband that intends to treat her poorly, an ex-phantom and an Doctor, healers always know the best ways to kill, no one studies it as much as them." He warranted out a sigh. "Do you think I should befriend her as a stranger, or would it be best to just remain a shade in her past - you also have to tell me what type of woman you'd be looking for if any, interests and all."

"Oh," Doc replied, "I'm not particular. It'll feel right if I find that special someone." He shrugged, "We shall see." He cocked his head and moved it back again, "just no former patients or co-workers. It's taboo."
"As to Doreen," he continued, "if you wish to befriend her again, and she doesn't mind having friends. She is, after all, easy to like. Be who you are now but whatever you do, don't let her take a bio scan or sample from you. I know that she keeps good records and probably still has your DNA on file. She'll figure it out easily."
He raised a brow. "As far as I knew, I was never her boyfriend... and wait, she bio-scanned me? I had never been around the medical equipment for such reasons, besides I never require medical attention, what is endured is something I can normally take care of being taught how to, if she did such then she did it when I was sleeping."
"You do know Doc, that who ever your likely to meet will be either co-worker or patient, its a taboo in your mind though I guess its wise in that their feelings for you might seem more of the gratitude nature, in either regard to Doreen, I was meaning to only befriend her, just merely she wouldn't know of who I am - maybe we should look up those dating website things on the neural net?" Vaelin teased.
