Story of Maria Fergusson

Childhood

Maria Fergusson was born on planet Los Angeles, 5th April, 798 A.S. to average family. She is the oldest of three children of James Fergusson and his wife, Paula. Her father worked as hauler of the Synth Foods incorporated, majority of his life is composed of flying in space, rarely in Liberty, mainly in Bretonia. Paula is unemployed. Paula and Maria moved to planet Manhattan soon after Maria reached age of three years. Her two younger sisters were both born there and raised there, in the main metropolis, capital of planet Manhattan.
With father's Synth income and everything being close, the family down on the planet lived luxury life. Everything seemed to be ideal until something bad happened. Her father's ship along with one other transport and three escort fighter got lost in 812 A.S. in Magellan, when Maria was 14 years old. Few days ago, Paula got precise informations about that what happened here. Family got personally visided by police officer who showed them everything which was investigated about this case.

"I am really sorry to inform you, but investigation proved, that your husband's convoy got ambushed and destroyed. The tradelane leading from California gate to Freeport Four was whole disrupted in couple of seconds, leading us to the terrorist organisation known as the Lane hackers. I am sorry, but we didn't find any survivors, only melted debris. Scanner data registered increased radiation levels. Most likely caused by use of antimatter weapons. It was quick action, the Navy was there eight minutes after the incident, but it was too late. Apologize."

This fatefull incident changed direction of Maria's life. Family was still able to stay in good economic situation, thanks to James' money. Maria was the most affected by this. Her father died due to the fact that Liberty Navy was unable to secure a tradelane in system which is known to be trade junction between Liberty and Bretonia. She decided to leave her dreams about becoming a doctor. At age of 14, she was sure she will enlist to the Liberty Navy. To become usefull somewhere where it is needed, to prevent traders to meet same destiny as her father.

In service of the Navy

After Maria studied local high school planetside, she really enlisted into the Navy as she planned. The obvious process of conscription were psychologicall tests. However, describing her personality showed to be problem for officers taking care about Liberty Navy recruitment. The fact about her past and what changed her way of life thrown some questions for the Navy personell.

"Isn't her decission to join our ranks driven by revenge? Is she psychically labile? Her temperament is significantly straightforward, but that doesn't mean she cross her borders. Being quiet inconspicuous woman, she masks strenth and persistence of her mind effectively. She is very motivated and responsible, never lefts anything incomplete."

It was problematic at start, but she got there. She was twenty years old when she started her training at the West Point military academy. It passed away like water in a river. After two years of training, she became full member of the Liberty Navy in year 820 A.S. Soon after becoming an ensign, she faced the Lane Hackers, ironically, near the California jump gate in Magellan, the place where her father met death 8 years ago. That wasn't the only problem there...

"It was my first action today. Our patrol encountered three hostile ships, two of them was surely of Lane Hacker origin, the third was a Rogue bomber registered as Barghest class. Our task seemed to be simple, elliminate them. Our whole wing was composed of four Guardians. Comparing both forces favoured our side, it was good to wipe three more bloodthirsty pirates out from the skies of our Republic, so we did. Fighter craft of mine and one ship of our patrol received some sratches, but nothing unrepairable. We proceeded to the Freeport Four to restock and return to California, but long range scanners picked up a gunboat of Gallic origin, according to it's measured mass, it was most likely royalist or Council vessel. It wasn't responding to hailings from the Freeport, so Lieutenant Commander ordered us to check it's location. We flew just twenty five clicks away south to the Freeport where we meet the Gallic royal navy gunboat. Bomberless, we pulled away to the base. Simultaneously, two Gallic fighters came to the gunboat and took escort positions. Ship needed to elliminate the threat were just two Upholders or a Defiant. Bad news... Large cut of the Navy forces were in battle with Rheinland military in Bering system, we were ordered to track the Royal Navy ships until the support arrive, estimated time to come was 15 minutes. We were closing to 6 clicks to it, unpredictably, the Gallic force attacked us. Concentrating fire on the gunboat proved to be pointless with two skilled fighters on our tails. We attacked one of them and destroyed it quickly, but my squadron mate's ship was destroyed by quick salvo from the gunboat. I took his lifepod for price of left wing. My ship was no longer very usefull. Fortunately, Defiant class gunboat along with one bomber came to aid us. After the destruction of the Perilous, two of our still usable fighters destroyed the last Lynx. Finally, we were able to return to California where we parked at the Yukon. I realised my ship was way too damaged to continue it's service, but I saved one life."

Her superiors wasn't happy hearing about destruction of two Guardians, but Maria's success of saving life of one soldier pleased them. Her next and for some time only one ship was one of the Upholder class. After eight months of service in the Liberty Navy, lined up by destruction of illegal munitions smuggler convoy and facing both Gallic and Rheinlandish threat with bravery, she received an unseen invitation...

The Agency

"Miss Fergusson, your moves attracted our attention. If you are interrested, meet us in bay of battleship Rio Grande at 7:10 pm next friday. ~The Agency"

The message she received wasn't falsificate, nor any trick. The Liberty Security Force coding was used. She came to the battleship as requested and was given a short interview with LSF commander. This was perfect opportunity for her, what was the motivation to comply is not exactly known, but it seemed it wasn't any kind of retribution. She most likely seeked for influence. Her first mission under the Liberty Security Force colors was an expionage in Hamburg system. Revealing herself to Rheinlanders would be a failure. For this mission, she was given a new ship, one of not usual ones, the Avenger class. The mission is declared to be 'top secret'. Agent in training Maria Fergusson claimed that she felt such intense fear as never before when two Rheinland military gunboats engaged themself. Not many LSF personell have access to the following cut of her blackbox record.

Maria was required to swear being silent and not tell anything anywhere, even to superiors, which seemed to be illogical. Only explaination from a senior agent who took command of that mission was:

"Miss agent, the vessel which picked up strange readings was under controll of aliens, the Nomads. We must investigate the case to depth. Report to me at the LSFC-Yosemite tommorow at the morning, near the Norfolk shipyard miss."

Obviously she did, didn't imagine how far reaching consequences that day will have for her life. The battlecruiser was heading to Hamburg system, to the location of the incident. Her Upholder and Avenger were both prepared for the worst. The key moment happened when the battlecruiser speeded up in the tradelane towards the Bering jump gate. Maria walked by the corridor towards her room, followed by the senior agent trying to not be suspicious. In the second when Maria opened the door of her room, the senior agent unnoticed by anyone jumped inside and hit her neck with a paralyzer before she even noticed. He closed the door. Knelted close to lying Maria, stunned and unaware of what was going on around. His eyes went glowing in sharp violet tones. He closed towards Maria's head and used hands to open her mouth. The agent then slowly closed her eyes and opened his mouth with the same tempo. Suddenly, long, blueish organism climbed out of his mouth directly into Maria's throat, giving her something. She never thought about possibility of this happening to her. When the tentacle-like creature finished it's job, the agent's look turned normal again. In attempt to mask what he did, shaked with Maria, again, again...

"Miss agent... Miss Fergusson! Wake up..."
"What happened"
"You felt over while the ship jumped out of disrupted tradelane ring number four."
"Am I allright"
"You should be, I scaned you. It was just unlucky hit directly on your chin"
"I hope so"
"Now, miss Fergusson, get to your fighter. We will enter Hamburg in a minute"
"Aye sir"

Being unnoticed by anyone, the seed of evil is growing inside of the chest of Maria Fergusson. The right moment might come very, very soon. No one even bothers now, even she herself...
