The Mameluke is the officer's dress sword of the United States Marine Corp, used in recognition of the original sword given in commemoration of the battle of Tripoli during the Barbary wars.
And a bunch of other stuff that wikipedia could doubtlessly tell you better than I.
That picture, of course, is from the Wikipedia article!
And blunt, since I fence with the sabre, I will clarify. The fencing sabre is not an actual weapon...it is a modification of the actual sabre to introduce it to the general sport of fencing. That is why you can score blows with the edge of the fencing sabre too.

There is still little reason to name it 'Mameluke'... 'Scimitar' is suitably generic enough to get by, but 'Mameluke' is too Turkish to pass muster for the Hispania's peoples.
'Trident' is good, as is 'Estoc'. I prefer 'Estoc', personally, since it is a sword. (Note: Not a fan of 'Falcata' as a name either...)
I fence, too, Pierre:PAnd I prefer straight sabers like the 1908 over here. Which is why I payed $400 American Dollars for it (yes, I know our currency isn't worth crap right now), and had to go and replace the stinking grip because it sucks. But anyways, I prefer straight sabers like that, and indeed so do a lot of people...my father fences on occasion with an 1872 US Cavalry Saber (he has a sharp one and a blunted one. Obviously, the latter sees more use), and most of his kills are with the point...so, anyways, no marmaluke, because I hate them and they suck and a Saber doesn't have to be curved:P
EDIT: You know what the basic issue is here? I'm going to call it whatever the hell I want it, and the only person who will change that is Igiss, and I don't think he will because, as I said before, there shouldn't be a problem unless I call it the Dick Smallberries Funboat. So in essence, bugger off:PIt's a name, honestly, and I can't believe my post count went up that much defending it...it has been fun crossing swords, so to speak:lol:

Oh don't be so quick Eppy. I took a large part in making that ship, you wouldn't deny that, right? Fixing broken mesh, texturing, making hitbox, hardpoints, stats and so on. No, I'm not bragging for a piece of cake, since I don't really care, but still, just saying: don't be too pushy about it. Right now you aren't the only author, not anymore, so accept that fact. You may call it whatever the heck you like, as in ship model and internal parts its still will carry its name, since modifying anything there gonna break it completely, it's a card house. Therefore we gonna stick with "funboat" or "loveboat". Hehehe.
p.s. Whatever the name. Just making a point here, some people are forgetting rather quickly I see. You know, those things like "mine, mine, mine!!!".
Less of the MINE Eppy... In the end... The community will be using the ship also, this isn't going to solely YOURS and yours alone.. Taking suggestions might help, but what do I know? Do what you want.
While being quite funny, your sig was the biggest one i've ever seen so far. No more than 700x250 please. ~utrack http://pastebin.com/SYQXBufs
