Ok, so... This is my first thread, and i'm full new on all of this. I've played Freelancer since 2011, single player only and no mods. It has been one week and a half since i started playing Discovery, my first impressions were totally good. I met a guy who showed me how to mine and everything. I never saw him anymore. I met another guy, he helped me and he instructed me to restart, the basics of credit transactions and now i have a DSE ID, a Mammoth and a trade route.
I have no friends to play with, the few friends i have aren't into space sims, especially into a 2003 game. So i'm here, alone, doing the same trade route for days, being an easy target to pirates since it's a lone transport. The last guy who helped me is cool, but i get the feeling i'm too annoying for him, so i stopped asking questions. I've read rules, several threads, faction recruiting forms, etc, but i still don't know what i can do. I liked to think i could be a bounty hunter, but i'm far to having an appropriate ship and equipment.
I can't see any good things in me since i'm this huge and very slow target to shoot at and i don't see what benefit any faction would gain with me in it. Also, i live in a s*itty country, so i have a very bad internet connection (once i travelled an entire trade route, and when i was just docking at the station i was supposed to go, the connection failed and i went back to the place i was before travelling all that distance).
I'm not sure if this thread is in the right place, feel free to delete it or something if I did something wrong.
So... Is this normal for new comers? I don't know if it's just me. Thank's in advance.
It sounds like you need to find a faction to join. Check out some of the factions on the forums, see if you can find one that suits how you want to play, and apply for recruitment.
Check out [ALG] if you need a home. They've got large shared transports and security ships for you to use and sight-see all over Sirius.
Transports are actually extremely strong as of now in terms of PvP balance (at least for the lighter ones). The Mammoth is basically one of the top-tier transports, just that you have to turret steer and kite. (Bind your pitch up/down turn left/right keys, press H, and then control + mouse wheel scroll to zoom out and control your ship, dont forget to use your thruster while doing this) Charon turrets are good all-rounders, although if you have difficulty using them just switch to dulzians if all you want to engage are snubs attacking you.
Your best bet to find people to play with is to join a faction.
If you're into mining and trading, I'm going to go ahead and self advertise for DHC we are a mining group out of Rheinland, and will be more then happy to help you get set up with your ships and everything.
Almost everyone started out here with nobody to play with, and we've all built a group of friends here. I use to run a faction with a guy who hasn't played in like two years, and I still talk to him at least once a week.
and don't feel like you have to choose one faction, I'm in like 4 right now. the only time having multiple factions is a problem when you're leading more then one, if you're just rocking out as a normal member, it's really just a matter of how much time you have to play. and even then, a lot of facitons don't care if you're only active once a week.

Well you should totally join a faction. Just look at the faction list and choose what you think it suits you best. For the beginning you should choose a trading faction so you can make some money.
I had the same problem when I joined the server. All my friends who played single-player and liked the game didn't want to join the server now because ... "you know, it's ooold, 2003 ... like more than 10 years.." so * them . If you really play alone it's kind of boring but when you join a faction there are other players and it's more fun. You should really join one

Thank's again.
Welcome and sorry for the the experience, I'm usually touring around I'm not in an factionas as of yet, I have many ships and will tour with ya and show ya some other trade routes, and provide protection if needed when your doing a run. My Main 2 ships are Pantera 1970 or Crazy 1. PM me with your ship name and I'll find ya in flight. I'm always on when I get the chance here - my time right now is 9:45 am the server time is 14:45 GMT or 2:45 pm.
I'll chat with ya soon.
Before you continue, you might want to take a look at this.
If you continue, I'd recommend the DHC too. The IMG are good as well and quite resistant to pirates. I tried to pirate their mining operation in Dublin once, with a Corsair battleship. They noticed me as soon as I was in radar range, started cruising to a station one second later and when I arrived at the spot, they were already safe. I wasn't, though. A wing of their bombers suddenly appeared and utterly annihilated my battleship.
For earning, join trade faction. However, if you have cash (what is not necessairy right now), feel free to join 343rd. I'm member of them and so far it's one of few factions who maintain rather easygoing and friendly relations inside the ranks.
