Mother: Natasi Daala, second cousin to Her Imperial Majesty, Queen Carina I
Father: Sir Firmus Piett, aka Lord Jarrow, Minister of Defence.
History:
James Frederick Albert William Piett, son of Sir Firmus Piett & Natasi Daala, born on the 20th March 798 A.S. As a young man of Bretonia, he is quite frequently found in the many bars and pubs, along with a few clubs with others of his age on Planet New London, however, he is also his fathers man. He carries some of his father’s traits, but has not completely matured enough to become a complete image.
As a boy, he attended the East New London Academy of Military Science, a prestigious school for the sons and daughters of high ranking officers, as well as servants of the crown, such as Lords, Lady's and Knighted individuals. Whilst there he earned the experience necessary to act as a loyal officer of the Armed Forces, but also vital leadership skills to apply later in his military career. Officers that leave the Academy usually find their way through the ranks quickly, or some end up as members of the SAS, SBS, or SIS.
During his time at the East New London Academy for Military Science, he excelled in war games. The academy trained future leaders, future officers, so war games were trained as strategists and commanders. The general policy of the school was to pair people up, allow them to learn from each other's trend the and weaknesses. It worked. James' partner was a young Charlotte Brooks. They paired perfectly, their tactics and maneuvers differing greatly. The trainers noticed this instantly. “Little too much detail, try:” Charlotte was quick and fast, acting decisively yet aggressively while James was hesitant, observed the field and acted with thought for the overall picture. The academy staff decided that only together they would overcome these obstacles, by learning from each other's skill sets.
Whilst still newcomers to the Academy, they were initially rivals, often leading into loud fights through their evenings together. As they worked together in simulations however they began to learn from each others victorys and teach each their mistakes.Over the years, it became considerably easier, and it showed. They began spending more time together, the closest of friends. Their work showed this relationship, their attacks triumphing over those of any other student pair. They slowly rose through the student leaderboards. Their exams were exemplary year after year.
In their final year at the academy, the two began to feel more intimately towards each other. As the year went on, they found it harder to ignore. In the last term of their final year, they took an evening together, on the roof of one of the housing complexes. Sitting up there, they went through final notes, one last session before their final exam the next morning. Unfortunately, being the young people they were, they allowed their emotions to take control, for just a second. As James leaned in, Charlotte placed a hand on his chest to stop him. As she did, a couple of the fourth year students stumbled out, catching James and Charlotte close together. They ran off laughing, their own romantic adventures beginning, but the damage had already been done.
James was hurt, and he couldn’t understand why things had gone wrong. They were friends, colleagues, a team in war games, but nothing more could come from it, and James was beginning to accept that. They took their exams, James struggling a little, but passed none the less, and continued as friends. Nothing more spoken about that night on the rooftop. They spent the summer going out with other friends from the academy. Party's, bars, booze and good food, enjoying their last weeks of freedom. They knew that by the end of summer, they would put in to their chosen branches of the armed forces. The group occasionally met over the years, but it had been sometime since the group last met. It would all change in 822 AS.
James Piett had decided to take a year to explore his options. Whilst he wished to take up the family tradition of joining the Armed Forces, he knew there was more out there. However, his wish, and the reality, where two separate things. What he ended up doing, much like some other men of his age, was spending much time partying and exploring the planet. It wasn't long before he came across a young woman, about the same age as himself. Her name was Naomi Stuart, daughter of the man, namely Miles Stuart, who would later become the Gateway CEO.
The two were still quite young, and they spent a lot of time together. They would party, they would drink, they would make friends. All as a pair. In their travels, they made many friends across the planet, and all agreed what a great pairing they made. However, behind closed doors they argued. James was a flirt, and they both knew it. James saw it as light hearted fun. He would never truly hurt her, but he couldn't see what he was doing, not the way she did. Naomi watched him flirting with other women. She watched him disappear from parties, to return alone. Quite understandably, she began to lose trust, and faith in him.
Multiple times, Naomi threatened to leave James, and he slowly began to realise what he had been doing. He was too late, too late to realise all the harm he had caused. James was still within his signup period, a short space where Academy graduates would be accepted, almost without fail, into most of the Armed Forces branches. Knowing he had done wrong, he signed up and left. No-one knew, not even Naomi. When she found he had left, she was heartbroken. Little did James know at the time, but his ties to the crown had just strengthened Gateways position for their future CEO. He had hurt Naomi, a young lady whose father would become the head of the biggest competitor to Bretonian, and crown owned, shipping. The royal blood in James’ veins was enough to annoy Miles, enough to make him a large competitor for Bretonia, and the Crown.
Much like his father, he is loyal, to his country and his fellow countrymen. He currently serves as a part of the Bretonian Army. As it is family tradition, both for his father, and his mothers royal bloodline, he joined the Armed Forces at the age of 18, reaching the rank of Corporal as any normal career rank. Unfortunately, he falls too far outside the royal line of succession to gain any advantages, or honours rank.
His father was a man of Honour, yet as a young man of Bretonia, this hasn’t really affected him as much as it could have. As a Corporal, his responsibilities to his unit in the field cause him to grow up, but this is when on patrol. In the barracks or the local bars, he is much like any other man, eager for fun, and looking to have a good time with his mates.
Sturdy, the next family trait. A cause of his military upbringing and education. Whilst sometimes mistaken for stubbornness, this ties in closely with his sense of honour, another trait that will grow as he becomes wiser. This tie to his honour, is an embodiment of the devotion to his cause, whatever that may be.
Seriousness. This is the one trait that has not affected him yet, that isn’t truly a part of him. He doesn’t have a large responsibility, just that of his platoon, and as such this has escaped him a little. It is something that will grow alongside his responsibility.
These are the traits of his father though. They are what will soon define him as a man, but for now? For now he is his own man, leading his own life, with his own experiences and choices. His place in the royal family leaves him far enough from the throne, that he considers himself more common than royal. Much like the men in his family he feels that he is responsible for defending Bretonia, ensuring it's freedom, and finding friends and comrades along the way. Friends that he will live out the rest of his life with. This is where James Frederick Albert William Piett believes himself to be in society. Another man trying to make a difference in a bitter war.
This is the man that James is today, completely unaware of the man he will become over the coming years. The responsibility that will be thrust upon him.
