inRP they will still be carrier and cruiser, and therefore not able to enter house space... so you might as well delete the barge and the corvo, it's best than this ridiculous options...

I have 2, used for freeport defense, they will be useless now and the ridiculous q-ship doesn't replace it...
Contrary to 'popular' belief, Freeports can actually be defended without using Cruisers!

Or you just give rights to carriers and big weapons to civilians to pew around the game? if so then you make a GREAT balance!
0 police forces and military? Say what? Lawfuls are everywhere, ask them for assistance or escort. Civilians do not need military grade technology.

A gunboat or a liner? Do we not have enough of these already? A special ship and a nice fat target, they are the things that make people log in, at least i would log in. I want a nice trophy on my wall. And how is it about the people who SRP or bought these ships in the past? How are they compensated for their time/effort and commitment to discovery?

@Emile
Since when owning a barge is effort?
How many SRP requests for barge can you remember? I can remember 2. Both players are already gone.
And grinding 10 billions to buy a barge from other player is anything, but commitment to Discovery just jumptrading and interaction avoiding.

Jump-trading? I was telling about escorting and having fun. I believe in Kruger we did a few times jump-trading, but that was not that many times. Most of all because of hitting a barge is making it flip around. The same effect they get with npc ships. That they should be changed to a more proper ship, i agree with that. But a liner (or role play carrier) or a gunboat is just stupidity. It only sabotage the few barges who are still in there to enjoy their time in this game. Don't we all want that? I would like to see that Rheinland special ship that was wondering around the forums with a forward cannon. Why are we not making more time in ships like that? Change this ship into something more suitable for the people that still actually own one. Give them options something like this over here
It would make less drama and complaining from a lot of sides, so we all keep it fun how THE OWNERS want to play it. At least they have a saying in what they want their special thing to be changed too. Now it is just forced, imagine if a bs of a faction is just changed into a transport with transport turrets. I bet you will start to complain too, because your faction is affected in this change. I think most of these barges belong still to official factions and are tagged. If you just change these ships you just change their roleplay or use for these ships. And is the Roleplay not what this community stands for?
@Zayne Carrick, if you think I am wrong, then comment to the devs to change the OP hessian battleship to a transport with cruiser turrets. A faction so small should not have a battleship too, but maybe a liner like this? Maybe even more, to smuggle blood diamonds more safely.

I would certainly agree on that, after all, transports can't be attacked without demand, so hessian transport with cruiser turrets would allow me to wreck much more havoc and destruction, than battleship I'm logging 2 times a month to charge into battle and die there.
since almost no one uses docking modules in this game (at least I think I saw it being used just once, and that was for a snub to pass through some omicron system full of nomads), why not make this carrier the civ explorer, since carriers are used as battleships, and leave the corvo as it is? or then why dont you take that useless q-ship, that is based on a transport hull, and make it the civ explorer since that makes more sense than the corvo that has a much more advanced design and therefore would be much more costly to build, while a transport-hull based ship would me much cheaper...
EDIT: I would like to know how many people really uses docking modules here... Much more 5... I'm curious.
EDIT2: and makes much more sense for an explorer ship to have a couple docking bays to launch some auxiliary ships, and even a jump drive to travel to new systems...
AFAIK, Alley's going to implement some nice mechanics for docking modules, which would allow carrier to beam snubs. So carriers would be used to quickly gather large amount of snubs in one place.
Combined with jumpdrive that would make new ship very powerful, especially for raids.

Would it satisfy you if the team were to switch the lore for the Corvo to the proposed new ship, while leaving the Corvo intact under a different name?
How about if the Fearless were to be used as the gunboat while being renamed as the Corvo, and the Corvo were renamed to something like the Sentinel or the Phalanx? That would maintain the exploration lore, but separate it from the Zoners, while leaving the Zoner cruiser intact.

So a military civilian ship? Strange replacement for a barge that is so called used like a flying base/ refinery? So this is a Military/police only ship then? By lore it would suit it more in this direction.
