From: Caius Oakley, Relations Director To: GMG Directorate Group Security: Eyes only
Dear Directors,
Firstly, as per our standing orders, I have to remind you that this material is not to be discussed with anyone who has not received clearance.
Right, to business. I have good news, bad news, better news and a warning.
The good news
Our decoy outpost in orbit of Miura has been destroyed. This has certain consequences; the insurance policy will now come into force, and the Guild's coffers will be swollen by the receipt of 1bn credits, which will certainly come in handy. We must make sure that word of our windfall does not reach hostile ears, or they will know that we planned for this day.
The bad news
We lost a lot of good men on that base: the sheer ferocity of the attack, coupled with the failure of our early warning devices - note, we need to check them for possible sabotage - meant that lives were lost, needlessly wasted. The brave sacrifice of the men who chose to remain on board and attempt running repairs under fire must be rewarded. I propose the striking of 'The Medal of The Battle of Miura', a signal honour to be given to their families, along with a stipend to ensure that they not fear the state of slavery that we rescued them and their loved ones from.
The better news
The GC were directly involved in the attack. We were not certain that they would join in the slaughter, and if they had refrained and only sent in their Outcast whipping boys, all our plans would have gone to naught. As it is, we now have a valid reason to not only refuse to assist them in the repairs of their rusting hulk they call a battleship,, but also the free hand to engage any ships found to be doing so. Gentlemen, I highly doubt that that 'ship' will be going anywhere soon... meaning that the threat of invasion is lifted somewhat.
The warning
The whole event was observed by the Blood Dragons, who lifted not one finger to intervene. They have drifted much from the Imperial Pretenders they once were. Perhaps it is the decadent influence of Gallic customs that have started to pervade their society.
Conclusion
The tragic loss of lives has brought us a measure of peace, at the cost of a cooling off of diplomatic relations with the unwashed harridans, and has enabled us to see our closest neighbours for whom they really are.
Actionable
Medals need to be struck. Stipends need to be arranged - I suggest that the Insurance premium payout be used to finance this. Regretfully, the conditions of the insurance policy also dictate that we must replace 'like-for-like', and so provisions must be made for the creation of another outpost: I recommend that we site it away from Miura, and possibly in another system all together.
Gentlemen, you have the floor if you have any points you would like to make.
