I never argued that a liner makes more sense, however under the circumstances transports retrofitted make sense as well since its urgent and time is important and there are less liners than transports

Well, it is supposed to be an emergency evacuation effort. One imagines that every possible ship and pilot would be pressed into service. That's how I'm role-playing it anyway.
Additionally, restricting the event to only those with a particular massively expensive ship would kind of defeat the purpose of encouraging roleplay among the playerbase.

Which brings the returning question, why are liner so damn expensive ?

Events are encouraging activity, what is not same thing as encouraging roleplay. They only create opportunity for roleplay, but not everyone is interested to use it. Unfortunately during these events you see a lot of powertraders which came simply to grind money in very ooRP fashion like using armorless and weaponless 5k trains with freighter shields to maximize cargo hold and thus profit (because transporting like 4930 cargo units intestead of 5000 is so big waste of profit, meh) or transporting human cargo in completely unfitting types of ships like Titanic, Pirate Train or Salvager (I don´t like using trains too, but it their case you can at least partially RP it that they are using retrofitted cargo pods for passangers, though this makes sense only under specific circumstances).

Can it be set to allow just OSC liners to be able to use this , not just any train with trow in OSC ID ?
Why would they do that?
1. It is easy to load 5000 passengers any fly to Cambridge in train and collect all that sweet money , to easy . It is not so easy in Liner that stuck in every second trade line , so if you want money you have to put a little effort . I can easily trow in OSC ID on my Stork and grab all that money , but this is suppose to be OSC event , so i will rater use liner , even if i will get 20 % less profit and will arrive much later .
2. For people who wants to use trains , there is other events .
3. RP reasons , passengers need life support , Liners have them ,Trains in cargo pods usually don't , and even if they have , they are people , not cattle .
EDIT :
Also , when you sell passenger in Cambridge and receive bonus , you can simply buy them back for 500 and sell in Nearby New London for 2900 !
I have another suggestion .
Since transporting people in poor transport condition is considering smuggling , it could be allowed for all transport to carry on this route to earn cash , but it will be considered illegal by Law forces of Kusary/Bretonia/Liberty , an they will stop them and issue them fines .

It's more of a clever use of Freelancer's buyback system. I have no wish to add strain to the server just because a few players always want more money and are willing to abuse the system to do that.
