Your first time on the Discovery mod. Do you remember it? Were you trying to kill everything? Being a general scrub? What was your first experience?
Mine, I worked my way up to a CSV doing missions before some guy hired me to escort him to Gamma while he ran artifacts and superconductors in .85. Thats the first trade route I ever learned, and I still sometimes use when I'm bored.

Downloaded the mod by accident because a friend described Crossfire to me and I thought it was this.
I remember getting recruited into the KNF by Mayaclypse while wandering around, lost in Kusari. And then I was recruited by the Benitez on my second character after I got lost in the Omicrons and ended up outside Crete. Interestingly, I was actually their first Discovery recruit because they'd literally only just moved from RAW.
My favourite terrible noob character was when I discovered you could mount cargo pods on freighter shield points, and flew around RPing as a space hobo who lived in a dumpster (.83).
.84, i was so excited to play on the official server tears came down my cheeks like a proud dad.
i was looking for good ways of making money to buy the cruiser i wanted so badly, the LSC, then went in the middle of Kusari with it just to get wrecked horribly, armorless, too. Good times.. it took me a full month to realize i was doing it wrong.. but then i bought the sabre... my cyber-life changed after that.
i still think the day TS/TZ was introduced, my snub skill was ruined cus temptation to cap back then was big. ;-;
Oh, it was a magical journey. Me and a friend of mine got our first Rhinos, and traded some neon to Rheinland. We witnessed a RM vs Hessians fight on the way. Few routes later we were helped out by miners. The whole beginning was so ideal.
I do not remember the mod number per se, but the only outstanding thing I remember is that there were Order Battleship Turrets sold on California Minor.
I ground my way to a pelican, flew around Liberty a bit and stopped playing.
The next time I got around playing after a year from then was in 84, though obviously I had no idea you could save accounts. I started off by undocking from Manhattan, but some jackass had their BHG dessie parked right out the docking ring and I brained my starflier against it and died.
I was scooped up by a person I remember as Moonbase-Alpha-Logic who was flying a hegemon and he would pay me to be his escort. Though I had no idea he meant that I needed to fly ahead of him and scout, since I only knew my way around NY and California at the time.
He gave me my first million, which I quickly used to get a guardian, then later a Spatial with a Liberty Navy ID. The navy players got very mad at me for using an IMG ship in NY with that ID and guns, so Hale kicked me out. I swapped out the Navy ID for a Mercenary one, renamed to [Merc]Sindroms and somehow ended up in Alpha.
That was my first encounter with the Nomads as well, Keepers.Telchine in particular.
Well, that ended as you might expect me being in a Merc IDed, vengeance gunned and LN IFFed Spatial would.

Since my father showed me Freelancer in the first place, he was the one to show me the server, too.
Me and him had some fun as Corsairs for about a month before he stopped playing. Last he wanted to log his ships were wiped so he never got back to it again.
Oh well.
I still remember the time when I had that Behemoth with some cargo in it and I met a Carrier and some LSC near West Point. Both LNS-. Told me to drop my cargo and pay a fine of 10 million credits or I'd get blown up.
So I dropped and paid.
Then I got mad and stayed far, far away from Liberty for a time, doing all the missions I could/trading whatever I could in a close proximity with Rheinland.
And then I returned to the Corsairs and started working my way into figuring out how snub PvP was against the Red Hessians, Outcasts and BHG|Core. .86 was damn fun, man. And I so wish I knew what Turret-Steering or strafing up/down was back then. Hue.
Edit: This thread makes me want to make a separate account on Discovery Launchpad and play on that for a while. I just wish I'd have the same .86 feel while flying around Crete like I used to. "Man, Corsairs are cool." - not "Man, I wish the Corsairs were an actual faction."
