Following a thought that most POB derived equipment creation just follows gameplay mechanics, and does not answer in any way to roleplay of disco ( I think), I considered an alternative.
Since (some) people are adverse to castrating the perceived use of POBs ingame (since they can't be used solely for trade depot), I forward a suggestion of replicating cloak equipment to be sold at specific house intelligence bases (navy bases with the intelligence ID).
I don't care much about the stats of these cloaks in comparison to the common ones (earned with hardwork/ powertrading cash). They could have their stats pegged to the common ones, or slightly weaker than POB ones (to make those retain their worth?).
It would be a kind of perk for intelligence factions, like police get tlagsnet (and /nodock), and Military get full shipline.
Some of the characteristics that would define this alternative cloaks:
- Sold only at a specific military base or research facility.
- Buyable by all IDs OR Only to certain IDs (Intelligence factions, Military counterparts, Police ?)
- Fully compatible with the Intelligence ID of all houses (OR 100% for Official faction IDs, and 80 % to indie intelligence ?)
- Partial compatibility with military IDs of all Houses (it's sort of intelligence ID perk, so 75% or lower for Military, Police ?)
- If allowed to be bought/purchased by other IDs, ships get 1% compatibility. You might have found a cloak for your RP, but it's quite useless for combat, and the House Law enforcement will hunt you down in most cases.
- Could be granted as a perk for official factions.
- Could be granted to some additional factions that might have lore background akin to the intelligence faction research (Order, House Military without Intelligence faction counterpart, maybe).
- Perhaps create only fighter and gunboat class cloaks, and leave the higher classes in need of POB cloaks.
For all other cases, you always have the POB cloaks at your disposal.
It might be an elitist thing, but it doesn't remove the current alternatives.
Using cloaks to collect RP data is a bad move and should not be done in general.
Not even by intelligence factions.

I think the idea is nice*, not just that BS last likr 5 mins, i think fighter should last 45 seconds, gunboat lasts 1 min 25 seconds. And BS last 2 mins.
*I mean that the idea of cloaks, not avoiding interactions.
@LazNo. Absolutely no. 4 minutes of being cloaked (MkII) is not enough in scale of Disco. We don't want further nerfs, which breaks the already broken Cloak even more.
@"FluffReborn" As much as i understand your point of view, the only way we will get people to *FINALLY* stop arguing, is where we dont take drastic measures, (see OP) and dont do anything at all.
I always thought that cloaks should only remove your name from someones scanner. Not remove you visually.
Imagine a pirate engaging that sort of cloak to sneak up on miners in fields, using rocks as a cover.
That would also mean that people would have more success with small ships due to obvious reasons..
